\n\tJohn Nolan, the British theater veteran who appeared in a pair of Batman movies and on the CBS drama Person of Interest<\/a> for nephews Christopher Nolan<\/a> and Jonathan Nolan<\/a>, died Saturday, the Stratford-Upon-Avon Herald reported<\/a>. He was 87. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe London native spent two years with the Royal Shakespeare Company before exiting to star in the title role of the heroic young man in the acclaimed 1970 BBC miniseries Daniel Deronda, based on the 1876 George Eliot novel.<\/p>\n

\n\tNolan portrayed Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks in Batman Begins<\/a> (2005) and The Dark Knight Rises<\/a> (2012), both starring Christian Bale<\/a>. He also appeared in Following (1998) and Dunkirk (2017), written and directed by Christopher Nolan.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe boarded the Jonathan Nolan-created Person of Interest during its second season in 2013 as the mysterious John Greer, a former MI6 agent now running Decima Technologies and the Samaritan AI, and worked on 28 episodes through the fifth and final season. (Jonathan also co-wrote The Dark Knight Rises.)<\/p>\n

\n\tJohn Francis Nolan, the younger brother of Christopher and Jonathan\u2019s late father, Brendan Nolan, was born on May 22, 1938. He toured Ireland in a \u201cFit Up\u201d traveling company, studied acting at the Drama Centre in London and was cast as Romeo opposite Francesca Annis as Juliet at the Richmond Theatre in London.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe joined the Royal Court Company before his stint with the RSC, which included turns as Clitus in Julius Caesar and roles in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Indians and The Relapse, directed by Trevor Nunn. Later, he was a member of Nunn\u2019s innovative National Theatre ensemble company.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the wake of Daniel Deronda, Nolan starred as the scientist Geoff Hardcastle on the first two seasons (1970-71) of the BBC environmental drama Doomwatch and as Nick Faunt in 1973 on the romantic Depression-era ITV miniseries Shabby Tiger.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe co-wrote and played the title role in a Dostoyevsky trilogy for the Bristol New Vic company in 1980-81 and starred as Thoreau in The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail and as Doc in Tennessee Williams\u2019 Small Craft Warnings.<\/p>\n

\n\tHis onscreen r\u00e9sum\u00e9 included the films Bequest to the Nation (1973), Terror (1978) and The World Is Full of Married Men (1979) and the TV series The Prisoner, The Sweeney, General Hospital, Target, Return of the Saint, Enemy at the Door and Silent Witness.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe was heard on international<\/a> airlines as the voice of The Discovery Channel\u2019s in-flight entertainment.<\/p>\n
