\n\tIllumination and Universal\u2019s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie<\/a> is enjoying a stellar second weekend, soaring past the $300 million mark domestically and $600 million worldwide.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sequel is the first Hollywood pic of the year to accomplish either milestone. It\u2019s expected to top the weekend chart with nearly $70 million in domestic ticket sales for an estimated North American tally of $308.1 million through Sunday. Overseas, it is on course to earn another $90 million from 81 markets for a foreign tally of $327 million.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmazon MGM Studios\u2019 Project Hail Mary<\/a>, now in its fourth outing, also remains a force of nature. The Ryan Gosling-led space adventure looks to earn another $28 million this weekend for a domestic cume in the $258 million range through Sunday.<\/p>\n

\n\tA24\u2019s provocative film The Drama<\/a>, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, is holding in better than expected, dropping just 21 percent to $9 million for an early domestic total of $31 million for A24.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat leaves Universal\u2019s new romancer, You, Me & Tuscany<\/a>, looking at a solid fourth-place finish with an opening in the $8 million range. Social media has been quick to note it is the first rom-com<\/a> featuring Black leads since 2012\u2019s\u00a0Think Like a Man.<\/p>\n

\n\tWill Packer<\/a>, the film producer behind\u00a0You, Me & Tuscany,\u00a0Think Like a Man,\u00a0Girls Trip,\u00a0Ride Along\u00a0and other titles, tells\u00a0THR\u00a0that the challenge for getting such features into theaters stems not only from the industry\u2019s \u201cvery paltry record when it comes to films that highlight diverse leads,\u201d but also that rom-coms have been deemed as a genre that can be relegated to Netflix streaming offerings or TV films on Lifetime.<\/p>\n

\n\tFilmmaker Kat Coiro\u2019s movie stars\u00a0Halle Bailey<\/a>\u00a0as a chef who secretly starts living in a vacant Italian villa and develops feelings for the cousin (Reg\u00e9-Jean Page<\/a>) of the residence\u2019s owner.\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s\u00a0review<\/a>\u00a0deemed the film an \u201cappealing\u201d escapist fantasy.<\/p>\n

\n\tBolstered by a strong A\u2013 CinemaScore and a 93 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the studio anticipates You, Me & Tuscany will hold better than expected.<\/p>\n
