{"id":598375,"date":"2026-04-12T03:56:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T03:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/598375\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T03:56:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T03:56:08","slug":"texoma-boxing-tournament-draws-fighters-from-across-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/598375\/","title":{"rendered":"Texoma boxing tournament draws fighters from across the country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">DENISON, Texas (KXII) &#8211; Junior boxers from all across America came to Denison on Saturday for a competition hosted by veteran Andre Luper and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thecampsports\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thecampsports\/\">\u201cThe Camp.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThis is where all the kids come together and get to show their skills,\u201d Luper said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The tournament featured boxers ages eight and up, and crowds filled the Grayson College gym with energy and excitement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">James \u201cRabbit\u201d Brown, an inductee into the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame, said the sport and his coaching team teach one central concept.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cDiscipline,\u201d he said. \u201cDiscipline is what brings leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Luper says that core concept helps him see a bright future\u2014one that begins with gloves on and guard up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe are big on discipline with the kids, building up their character, building up their self-esteem so they can be something in life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Brown believes the lessons learned in the ring and at practice will propel his students to success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re not just teaching somebody how to punch, we\u2019re teaching somebody how to lead,\u201d he said, \u201cwe\u2019re teaching them how to be leaders, how to be men, how to be women.
