Portland International Airport in Oregon offers bike parking, built a trail leading directly to the airport, and even provides an assembly stand for boxed bicycles. Oakland International Airport converted vehicle lanes into bike lanes on its airport access road. Los Angeles International Airport supplies bike lockers, showers, and changing areas for employees who ride to work.

Beyond major hubs, the Idaho Aviation Association operates a Borrow-a-Bike Program for members at airstrips across the state. https://idahoaviation.com/membership/member-benefits/

The Transportation Research Board report, “Enhancing Airport Access with Emerging Mobility”, is available at: https://www.nationalacademies.org/publications/28600

(Visited 36 times, 35 visits today)

Previous articleColorado Delivers: Two Iconic Rides Named Among Nation’s Best

Charles Pekow is an award-winning Washington correspondent who has written about bicycling for years in publications such as the Washington Post, Bicycle Times, Dirt Rag, SPOKES, etc. as well as Cycling West/Cycling Utah.
