HASTINGS, Minn. \u2013 The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s golf team is hosting their Gustie Spring Classic this weekend at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings as one of 11 competing teams. After day one of the two-day event, the Gusties stand in third place at +37.

\nUW-La Crosse leads the field at +34. UW-Eau Claire is the current runner-up at +36. Saint Benedict trails Gustavus in fourth\u00a0place at +42. St. Olaf, Bethel, and UW-River Falls are all tied at +51 to round out the top five.

\n“Nice to be out competing,” said Gustavus head coach Scott Moe<\/a>. “It’s been a long winter. This time of year, usually the rust in your short game shows and today it showed its ugly head a few times. Conditions were very tough with wind and rain. Tomorrow, we need to do a better job adjusting to the speed of the greens. It doesn’t matter if they’re very fast or very slow, we have to adjust better.”

\nAddison Longie<\/a> leads the Gusties after the opening round, shooting +4 through the first 18. The first year currently stands in second place overall, just one stroke back of Lilly Kaminski of UW-Eau Claire for the top spot heading into the final round on Sunday.

\nLauren Hubbart<\/a> stands in ninth overall at +9 with the second-best score for the Gusties’ A-team. Mary Kate Hewitt<\/a> of the Gustavus B-team is tied with Hubbart at +9.

\nEmily Kolb<\/a> and Riley Zebroski<\/a> round out the top four scores for the Gusties’ A-team, standing tied for 21st overall at +12.

\n“Only seven players broke 80 today, that shows you how tough the conditions were,” said Coach Moe. “Congratulations to Addy for posting a 75 and sitting in second place. I look for our entire team to be better tomorrow and avoid the big numbers that plugged our scorecards today.”

\nGustavus will return to the course on Sunday, April 12 for the second and final day of the Gustie Spring Classic with the tee times set for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
