One of the main stars of The Big Bang Theory has a new dark comedy series, which has debuted with a solid score on Rotten Tomatoes. <\/p>\n

For all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory<\/a>, the main cast of the popular sitcom featured Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter, Kaley Cuoco as Penny, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz, and Kunal Nayyar as Rajesh “Raj” Koothrappali. Since the series ended, the actors have starred in a variety of projects, including Cuoco in The Flight Attendant, Helberg in Poker Face, Nayyar in multiple Trolls movies, and Parsons narrating Young Sheldon. <\/p>\n

Young Sheldon has become one of the most popular TV show spin-offs, but it isn’t the first like it, and there are similar shows fans would love.<\/p>\n

Helberg’s new show, The Audacity<\/a>, has now debuted with a solid Rotten Tomatoes score of 73%. The percentage is based on 11 reviews as of this writing, with eight that are “Fresh” and three that are “Rotten” per the metrics of the aggregation site. Following the April 12 premiere on AMC and AMC+, the show’s score will likely fluctuate. <\/p>\n

The Audacity is a satirical series that uses dark humor to explore Silicon Valley and “a world of jaded billionaires, psychiatrist-gurus, bio-hacked tech bros, AI labs and disillusioned teens being optimized in elite private schools,” according to the official logline. Simon Helberg plays “maladjusted genius” Martin Phister<\/a>, who is working on developing an AI companion. The cast of characters also feature the data-stealing CEO Duncan Parker (Billy Magnussen), therapist Dr. JoAnne Felder (Sarah Goldberg), and Martin’s wife and tech company ethicist Anushka Bhattachera-Phister (Meagan Rath). <\/p>\n

Collider<\/a>‘s Shawn Van Horn gives the series seven out of 10 stars, explaining that “what keeps The Audacity together is that the show dares to introduce characters the viewer will hate before spending the season, with cutting humor and strong performances, digging deep into who they really are. For anyone who sticks with the series past the first episode, The Audacity becomes worth investing in.”<\/p>\n

TV Guide<\/a>‘s Allison Picurro takes issue with the pacing over the course of The Audacity’s eight episodes. However, she does praise the finale and the setup for the already renewed second season, leading to a score of 6.9\/10: “While it takes a while to get to its point, the first season wraps up relatively promisingly, and the series has already been renewed for a second season. It’s easy to see how The Audacity could grow into a truly astute show as it continues, but as a viewer, you can’t help wishing it made itself worth investing in during its early stages.”<\/p>\n

Clint Worthington at RogerEbert.com<\/a> is left unimpressed by the series, with thin character development and an inability to tackle the themes in a fresh way being two significant drawbacks: “Unfortunately, the characters at the center don\u2019t get much of their psychology beyond the baseline existentialism that comes from a life spent pursuing money, ego, or fame. It\u2019s a story we\u2019ve heard told before, and better, and The Audacity hardly gives these ideas the upgrade they need.”<\/p>\n

In Slant Magazine<\/a>‘s review, which gives the show two out of four stars, Ross McIndoe highlights how the humor is unable to make up for mixed messaging and lackluster pacing: “In the end, watching The Audacity feels a bit like attending a TED Talk by one of Silicon Valley\u2019s more charismatic executives. There are some laughs to be had and lots of half-formed notions thrown out, but it rambles on for much too long, and you walk away feeling unsure of what you were supposed to take away from any of it.”<\/p>\n

The Audacity is created by Jonathan Glatzer, who is also an executive producer and a writer on multiple episodes. Glatzer has previously written episodes of Succession<\/a>, Better Call Saul, and Netflix’s Bloodline starring Kyle Chandler. Some reviews note the parallels between The Audacity and Succession while arguing that the new AMC series does not live up to the heights of the critically acclaimed and award-winning HBO show. The decision to renew The Audacity a month before premiering on AMC and days before debuting at SXSW 2026 indicates the high confidence in the show, though.<\/p>\n

After being a Big Bang Theory cast<\/a> series regular for its entire run, and portraying FBI agent Luca Clark in two seasons of Poker Face, Helberg has landed another multi-season series. Along with Helberg, Magnussen, Goldberg, and Rath, the cast of The Audacity includes Rob Corddry, Zach Galifianakis, Lucy Punch, Paul Adelstein, Randall Park, Everett Blunck, Thailey Roberge, and Ava Marie Telek. Every two episodes are helmed by a different director, beginning with Lucy Forbes, who is followed by Dan Sackheim, Dan Longino, and Alex Buono. <\/p>\n
