It\u2019s official: Taylor Elgersma will have to sit out a third consecutive United Football League game as he continues to await a verdict on his P1 U.S. work visa application<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Birmingham Stallions listed the Canadian quarterback as inactive for Sunday\u2019s matchup with the St. Louis Battlehawks, which will kick off at 3:00 p.m. EDT. He already missed the team\u2019s season-opening win over the Louisville Kings and last week\u2019s loss to the Houston Gamblers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elgersma has signed his UFL contract, but it has yet to be officially registered by the league due to the ongoing work visa process. In the meantime, he is permitted to be with the team on an unpaid basis.<\/p>\n

The native of London, Ont., initially reported to training camp with the Stallions on Monday, February 23. He left the team for a few days to throw at the 2026 NFL Combine<\/a>, but returned following his trip to Indianapolis.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Stallions head coach A.J. McCarron expressed his frustration with the bureaucratic delays in Elgersma\u2019s visa approval and indicated that he had reached out directly to Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama to assist<\/a>. He stated that he believed a resolution could come at any point before next Wednesday, April 15.<\/p>\n

In order to be eligible for a P1 athlete visa, a player needs only to be employed by a team in a professional league with six or more teams that governs its members, regulates the contests in which they compete, and has a combined annual revenue in excess of $10 million. The reason for the delay is unclear, as the UFL would appear to meet all those criteria.<\/p>\n

Elgersma won the Hec Crighton Trophy at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2024, which is awarded annually to the top player in U Sports football. He then signed with the Green Bay Packers after going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old was released by the Packers after training camp in August and has since worked out for the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. He is pursuing playing in the UFL\u00a0in the hopes of landing another NFL opportunity.<\/p>\n

The UFL regular season is just 10 weeks long, meaning that Elgersma has already missed 30 percent of his opportunities to perform. Stallions\u2019 starting quarterback has completed 73.7 percent of his passes for 433 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions thus far, posting a 1-1 record.<\/p>\n

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers hold Elgersma\u2019s CFL rights<\/a>\u00a0after selecting him in the second round of the 2025 CFL Draft.<\/p>\n
