Peel Regional Police confirmed Sunday that one man is dead after a canoe flipped in Heart Lake<\/a> Conservation Area in Brampton<\/a>, Ont., late Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to police, the call about boaters in distress came in around 9:30 p.m. on April 11.<\/p>\n

Brampton Fire Department crews were on scene within minutes of the call and conducted a search and rescue mission. They found a woman in the water, who had been in a canoe that capsized. They did not immediately find the man she had been with.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conservation area here was closed,\u201d said Const. Tyler Bell-Morena with the Peel police.\u00a0\u201cNobody should\u2019ve had access to the water; there certainly should not have been anybody out lake boating,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Rescue efforts went on for hours and with the help of the police\u2019s marine unit, the body of the other boater was found Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

An investigation is underway.<\/p>\n

Police said that although the circumstances are peculiar, there is no indication of foul play. All avenues will be explored in the investigation.<\/p>\n
