MISSOULA, Mont. — Montana won two doubles matches, and six singles matches on the way to a 7-0 victory over Sacramento State on Sunday morning at Peak Racquet Club.<\/p>\n
For the second straight match (including Friday at Montana State), the Hornets were playing indoors. Sacramento State dropped to 10-11 overall and 1-5 in the Big Sky Conference. Montana, the conference’s second place team, improved to 12-7 and 5-1 in league.<\/p>\n
In reality, this morning’s match did not mean much in the conference standings for Sacramento State. The top six teams in the eight-member conference qualify for the Big Sky Tournament in Phoenix on April 23-25.<\/p>\n
The Hornets have just one match left in the regular season, and its the biggest of the season. That will come on Thursday at home vs. Portland State at 1 p.m. Should the Hornets win that match, they would assume the No. 6 seed at the Big Sky Tournament. The loser of Thursday’s match will see its season come to an end.<\/p>\n
Sacramento State’s singles lineup today featured three freshmen and three sophomores, as the Hornets were playing their final regular season road match. Sophomore Miles Whitehead<\/a> took his match to a third set super tiebreak at No. 6 before falling. Nick Bowles<\/a> lost at No. 2 by a 7-5, 7-5 score, and saw his five-match singles winning streak come to a close.<\/p>\n The Hornets have been good at home, as the team is 7-4 on campus. Portland State (6-13, 2-4) will be seeking its first road win of the season (0-12).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
