The 20-year-old, whose deal expires in the summer of 2027, is expected to earn about \u00a3120,000 a week, a marked increase on his current terms, which are in the region of \u00a325,000 a week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIt\u2019s getting closer, so we\u2019re positive about that,\u201d said Carrick. \u201cWe\u2019re calm with it, but we\u2019re positive with it and time will tell how it goes. But at the moment, we are in a good place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">If Mainoo does sign a new deal it will signify a remarkable turnaround for the midfielder given the level to which he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2025\/aug\/16\/kobbie-mainoo-career-crossroads-new-zidane-amorim-outcast-manchester-united\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fell out of favour with Ruben Amorim<\/a> having previously scored in United\u2019s 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May 2024 and shone for England during that summer\u2019s European Championship. After not starting in the league this season under Amorim, Mainoo has been ever-present under Carrick, leading to an England recall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">United host Leeds on Monday night hoping to strengthen their pursuit of Champions League qualification. Carrick was asked if failing to achieve that would be deemed acceptable. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t accept it, no,\u201d the 41-year-old said. \u201cBut it\u2019s not so much accepting it, it\u2019s about trying to finish as high as you possibly can. We\u2019ll see how we get on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2026\/jan\/04\/leeds-manchester-united-premier-league-match-report\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United\u2019s visit to Leeds<\/a> on 4 January proved to be Amorim\u2019s last game in charge, with the Portuguese sacked the following day in the aftermath of his explosive post-match comments.
