Noah Ballard converted a free kick from a penalty in the 75th minute and that\u2019s all that Klein Cain needed as the Hurricanes repeated as Class 6A Division I champions with a 1-0 win over Humble Atascocita on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Ballard, the Championship Game MVP, blasted a shot over the wall from 26 yards near the middle of the pitch to the top right for Cain (19-3-5). Nick Quiroz set up the free kick by getting a red card for a serious foul.<\/p>\n
The match was very physical as 15 fouls were called on each team. Donato Farina record the clean sheet in goal for Cain, recording 3 saves on 6 shots by the Eagles.<\/p>\n
Atascocita (20-6-3) was making its first trip to a state title game.<\/p>\n
Heartbreak for Forney; Kingwood scores late, wins in SO<\/p>\n
Forney scored an early goal and made it stand up until the final 47 seconds when Kingwood tied it up. After a scoreless overtime, the Mustangs prevailed in a shootout 2-1 with a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks in the Class 6A Division II girls state championship game on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Forney, which defeated Southlake Carroll in the state semis, was making its first championship game appearance after reaching the state semifinals last season.<\/p>\n
Kalani Brundage slipped a slick pass over to Addison Smith who beat the Kingwood keeper with a low shot to the left side to give Forney a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute. From that point Jackrabbits\u2019 goalkeeper Cinnamon Hurst and the Forney defense was able to fend off 7 shots, 5 on goal, until the final minute of the match.<\/p>\n
A long, 40-yard desperation centering attempt was broken up by Hurst 10 yards in front of the goal. Hurst collided with the Mustang player the pass was intended for, allowing a rebound out to Tyler Weaver who hit the open net from 13 yards away.<\/p>\n
After a scoreless overtime, Forney hit its first 2 penalty kicks, but couldn\u2019t convert on anymore. Weaver, the Championship Game MVP, was true on Kingwood\u2019s fifth try to seal the 4-2 advantage in the shootout.<\/p>\n
Kingwood has been to 5 championship games now with the last coming in 2002. It was the third state title for the Mustangs (1995, 1999, 2026) who have reached the state semifinal round 10 times.<\/p>\n
College Park takes 6A DII title in shootout<\/p>\n
The Woodlands College Park and Houston Summer Creek were both making their first trip to a state championship game. And the two got every bit of the experience it could offer.<\/p>\n
The Class 6A Division II state championship match had to be decided in a shootout after a 1-1 tie through regulation and overtime. A miss in the fourth round of penalty kicks by Summer Creek opened the door for the Cavaliers to take a 2-1 win with a 5-3 advantage in penalties on Saturday night.<\/p>\n
Summer Creek (21-3-6) got on the board first in the 36th minute when Cristian Triana scored off an assist from Javier Barahona. In the second half, College Park (19-3-3) got the equalizer in the 49th minute on a Nolan Eisler feed of Salem Sharif who found the back of the net.<\/p>\n
College Park scored on each of its first four penalty kicks in the shootout before a miss by the Bulldogs gave Lincoln Wilson a chance to win it.
