It’s been eight years since Dragon Ball Super’s final episode thrilled fans worldwide, and it’s unlikely that the next series will inspire such a reaction.

While its visuals were a sight to behold, the franchise’s latest anime, Dragon Ball Daima, was controversial for several reasons. An unfocused release schedule and questionable writing contributed to the series’ failure to resonate with fans to the same level as releases like Dragon Ball Super and the latest film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

With Dragon Ball being one of the world’s most popular and profitable franchises in the world, it was only a matter of time before fans would get another anime adaptation to get excited about. January’s 40th anniversary celebration for the original anime announced that production was finally starting for the continuation of the Dragon Ball Super anime. It also announced a surprising remake, but not one that the colossal fanbase has been asking for.

Fans Want Dragon Ball Remakes, But Not The One We Are Getting

Goku killing King Piccolo in Dragon Ball.

It has now been more than forty years since the first Dragon Ball anime premiered. The classic still holds up in a lot of ways, but both it and its sequel series, Dragon Ball Z, could benefit greatly from being remade. Modern animation techniques like those used in Daima’s best moments would attract a new generation of fans and likely thrill the colossal fanbase. But the 40th anniversary event failed to announce any such projects; instead, a remake titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus.

In Fall 2026, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be the next Dragon Ball anime project. It will readapt DBS’s first arc, which helped revive the entire franchise by introducing new levels of strength, fascinating lore that grew the universe, and a compelling new hurdle for Goku to surpass: the God of Destruction Beerus.

                    Related

8 Ways Dragon Ball Z Has Aged Like Fine Wine

Moments like Goku’s first large-scale beam struggle against the furious Vegeta cut to the emotional core of what Dragon Ball is all about.

Millions of fans who grew up watching Dragon Ball Z had a lot of expectations explode when Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods released in movie theaters in 2013. Almost like a wish on the Dragon Balls themselves, the film brought the franchise back to life, which is why when the Dragon Ball Super anime debuted in 2015, fans were shocked to see the same material adapted again, but worse.

The first couple of arcs of Dragon Ball Super were an uneven mess on several fronts. While its later arcs successfully trended worldwide with Dragon Ball Super’s best moments, its rocky start was plagued with poorly planned production schedules, disappointing animation, and pacing issues that felt like an insult to viewers’ time. And for better or worse, Toei is diverting its resources to fix those mistakes.

Dragon Ball Fans Don’t Need A New Beerus, We Already Have Two At Home

The Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie introduced Beerus and the direction the franchise would be heading. Years later, fans were introduced to Dragon Ball Super, which stretched out the 2013 film into fifteen anime episodes. Even though Dragon Ball is arguably the most popular anime in the world, Toei Productions decided to adapt those episodes with almost no budget or time for its animators to stretch out the movie into roughly 300 minutes of anime episodes.

Throughout DBS’s first arcs, Goku’s debut battle against Beerus on King Kai’s planet and several scenes of Frieza’s assault on Earth during the Resurrection F arc have moments that fans still mock for their poor quality. Characters drawn with little to no detail and clumsy movements provided a low point for the franchise’s anime adaptations, which is a good reason why it seems that Toei wants to give the material another try, but from what has been shown so far, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is not even a proper remake, but more of a remaster.

                    Related

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Anime Officially Announced

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus has officially been announced for a Fall 2026 release.

The next Dragon Ball anime claims it will enhance the DBS’s first arc, not remake it. Teasers for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus show animations that have already been seen in the movie and anime, but with upgraded colors and shading. It’s not a terrible thing if the remaster helps fix a lot of the DBS anime’s ugliest moments, but it’s not a project that the already massive fanbase can get excited about when there is so much other Dragon Ball content to be animated.

Toei’s Energy, Time, and Talent Are Not At Ultimate Strength

Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and Broly as seen in Dragon Ball Super

The Dragon Ball Super manga has continued its story past the anime to deliver three new arcs, two of which readers are thrilled to see animated. Thankfully, the arc following the epic Tournment of Power was also announced to be in production during the 40th anniversary event. Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol is arguably the project fans are most excited to see because the manga’s arc introduced one of Dragon Ball’s most compelling villains and includes several prominent moments for beloved characters like Goku, Vegeta, and even Majin Buu.

There is currently no release date for the Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol anime adaptation. Still, it’s not too much of an assumption to think it could arrive faster if the staff in charge of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus were instead helping adapt the anticipated continuation of DBS’s manga. It begs the question as to why Toei has been dragging its heels in Dragon Ball Super’s anime continuation, and why fans are getting the Beerus arc remaster first.

                    Related

Dragon Ball Super’s New Anime Secretly Reveals the True King of New-Gen Anime

Dragon Ball Super is getting a new anime series, and though information is scarce, it seems to be taking the lead from a new-gen giant.

Making adjustments to already existing material is obviously less work and less expensive than creating something new, which is the most obvious answer to why Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will release before The Galactic Patrol adaptation. Toei may also be waiting to produce more DBS because of the manga’s hiatus. After the tragic loss of creator Akira Toriyama, the DBS manga’s primary writer and mangaka, Toyotaro, has taken a long break from releasing chapters, which gives the impression that there is no longer a captain or co-captain helping steer the gigantic ship that is the Dragon Ball franchise.

Complex legal issues regarding Dragon Ball copyright going on in the background may also be the cause of anticipated projects being delayed. Regardless, anime fans already have two versions of Beerus’s introduction into the franchise, and a third seems superfluous and more like a project that milks the franchise instead of providing something that can thrill and excite Dragon Ball fans.

      Created by

                                           Akira Toriyama

      Latest TV Show

          Super Dragon Ball Heroes

      First Episode Air Date

                   April 26, 1989

Fans of the legendary Dragon Ball franchise have a lot to look forward to with several projects in…

[29
49,48,75,348
0":"post-600738","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tv","8":"tag-ca","9":"tag-canada","10":"tag-entertainment","11":"tag-tv
["GET
