Conservative member of Parliament Billy Morin<\/a> says the Liberals are trying to get him to cross the floor, but he has no intention of leaving the Conservative caucus.<\/p>\n

Speaking on a hot mic before a press conference on Parliament Hill, Morin asked journalists unprompted: \u201cDo you want to run a story on floor crossing?\u201d<\/p>\n

When questioned if he would be the next floor crosser, he responded: \u201cNo, they\u2019re trying to poach me.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Morin is not seen in the framing of the video recorded from the event, a Global News journalist was in the room and heard Morin speak with reporters.<\/p>\n

Morin subsequently told Global News that a Liberal reached out to him asking, \u201cWondering if u ever had any reflections on what it would mean or wish to explore the dark side \u2026 We do want to grow out caucus to 7 preferably 8.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis shameless power grab in the face of democracy by the Liberals would attempt to make me just another number in their caucus,\u201d Morin said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am fully supported by my Conservative colleagues & leader to bring my voice and experience to the opposition team, rather than possibly being just 1 of 8 new voices to be tokenized. I am proud to be apart of a strong opposition \u2013 something Canadians are owed \u201c<\/p>\n

Morin was elected to represent the riding of Edmonton Northwest as a Conservative in the last federal election. He also previously served as the Chief of Enoch Cree Nation.<\/p>\n

Five MPs have switched political teams to the Liberals in the past five months, including four Conservatives \u2013 and there is speculation that more could follow.<\/p>\n

A senior government source tells Global News there are many ongoing conversations between the Liberals and Conservatives to get even more Tories to join the Liberal tent. A Conservative MP also told Global News that they believe more floor crossers will leave the Conservative caucus for the Liberals.<\/p>\n

The latest Conservative floor crosser, Marilyn Gladu<\/a>, changed political stripes just five days ago.<\/p>\n

Her switch to the government caucus was widely seen as the most shocking, given her history of supporting socially conservative stances, including restricting abortion, opposing a ban on conversion therapy and supporting the trucker convoy that took over Parliament Hill in 2022.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Mark Carney defended her switch at the Liberal convention this past weekend and emphasized that she will vote according to his party\u2019s values.<\/p>\n

Carney\u2019s government is currently one seat shy of a majority.<\/p>\n

Three key by-elections Monday will determine his government\u2019s mandate. Two Toronto-area ridings, University-Rosedale and Scarborough-Southwest, are widely seen as safe Liberal seats that were previously held by former cabinet ministers Chrystia Freeland and Bill Blair.<\/p>\n

However, the Montreal-area riding of Terrebonne will be a tight race against the Bloc Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois.<\/p>\n

The Liberals won the seat in the last federal election by a single vote, which was ultimately overturned by the Supreme Court due to mail-in ballot errors.<\/p>\n
