href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/doug-mccallum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Doug McCallum<\/a> is once again running for the top job in the city.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The 81-year-old announced his re-election bid on Monday morning as the leader of the Safe Surrey Coalition.<\/p>\n<p>He touted his accomplishments as including the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain and the transition from the RCMP to the Surrey Police Service.<\/p>\n<p>McCallum said his campaign promises include no property tax increase for four years, extending the SkyTrain line to Newton and a major boost to the Surrey police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to put more boots on the ground, more resources, we are taking on the organized crime and extortion directly because Surrey families deserve to walk their streets without fear, full stop,\u201d McCallum said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, he was <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/9294587\/doug-mccallum-acquitted-public-mischief\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">found not guilty<\/a> of public mischief following an investigation and trial into whether he intentionally misled police to trigger an investigation of a political opponent.<\/p>\n<p>McCallum alleged Debi Johnstone, a member of the group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/keep-the-rcmp-in-surrey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Keep the RCMP in Surrey<\/a>, had run over his foot outside the
