Wiseman <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/missions\/2026\/04\/11\/artemis-ii-astronauts-back-in-houston-reunite-with-families\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/blogs\/missions\/2026\/04\/11\/artemis-ii-astronauts-back-in-houston-reunite-with-families\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said at a news conference<\/a> held at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston yesterday (April 12). &#8220;And it was the most special thing that will ever happen in my life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>            You may like<\/p>\n<p>    <a id=\"elk-64e44ec5-1a6e-4ff1-b7e5-f42efe46ef09\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/>&#8220;I have not processed what we just did&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-64397f47-f044-4705-a055-012b1190c5e7\">The Artemis II mission sent humans <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/space\/space-exploration\/the-artemis-ii-astronauts-have-just-flown-farther-from-earth-than-any-humans-in-history\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/space\/space-exploration\/the-artemis-ii-astronauts-have-just-flown-farther-from-earth-than-any-humans-in-history\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/space\/space-exploration\/the-artemis-ii-astronauts-have-just-flown-farther-from-earth-than-any-humans-in-history\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">farther from Earth than ever before<\/a>, reaching 252,760 miles (406,777 kilometers) from our home planet \u202a\u2014\u202c more than 4,100 miles (6,600 km) farther than the record set by Apollo 13 in 1970. The <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/earth\/earth-observatory\/earthset-from-the-lunar-far-side\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/earth\/earth-observatory\/earthset-from-the-lunar-far-side\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Orion spacecraft took just seven hours<\/a> to swing around the far side of the moon on April 6, when the crew laid eyes upon never-before-seen regions of our lunar neighbor.<\/p>\n<p>The mission clearly had a profound impact on the crew. Get up,&#8217; she recalled. &#8220;And it ended last night, when my nurse on the ship put me to bed and said, &#8216;Ma&#8217;am, can I get a hug?'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>            What to read next<\/p>\n<p>Hansen noted how, beyond <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/space\/the-moon\/the-moon-is-green-and-brown-why-scientists-are-already-excited-about-artemis-iis-historic-lunar-photos\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/space\/the-moon\/the-moon-is-green-and-brown-why-scientists-are-already-excited-about-artemis-iis-historic-lunar-photos\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/space\/the-moon\/the-moon-is-green-and-brown-why-scientists-are-already-excited-about-artemis-iis-historic-lunar-photos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">all the scientific knowledge to be gained<\/a>, the mission&#8217;s biggest take-home message for the crew is a new perspective of our shared humanity and home planet.<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-ecdc0962-5fd3-4eec-b2c3-d17aefb6b917\">Wisemen agreed, saying &#8220;it&#8217;s a special thing to be a human, and it&#8217;s a special thing to be on planet Earth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Isaacman said NASA is already preparing <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission\/artemis-iii\/\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission\/artemis-iii\/\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Artemis III<\/a>, which is expected to launch in 2027 and will test the Orion spacecraft&#8217;s ability to work with several potential lunar landers in Earth orbit.
