{"id":602635,"date":"2026-04-14T03:56:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T03:56:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/602635\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T03:56:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T03:56:12","slug":"bundle-up-and-stay-inside-as-blizzard-hits-nunavut-nunavik","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/602635\/","title":{"rendered":"Bundle up and stay inside as blizzard hits Nunavut, Nunavik"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A blizzard swept across parts of the Kivalliq region, Baffin Island and Nunavik on Monday, forcing temporary closure of government offices and local services in many communities.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada began issuing blizzard warnings early Monday starting around 3 a.m. as a storm system swept across the eastern Arctic.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half of Nunavut\u2019s communities were affected, including\u00a0Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Coral Harbour, Gjoa Haven, Igloolik, Kimmirut, Kinngait, Kugaaruk, Naujaat, Rankin Inlet, Whale Cove and Iqaluit.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada issued blizzard warnings for half of Nunavik\u2019s 14 communities \u2014 the northern villages of Akulivik, Inukjuak, Ivujivik, Kangiqsujuaq, Puvirnituq, Quaqtaq and Salluit.<\/p>\n<p>Its website said blizzard conditions would likely end in most regions by Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Some communities were described as having near-zero visibility, while others like Rankin Inlet and Whale Cove were also dealing with winds gusting between 80 to 100 km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures varied from community to community.
