Back in November we heard rumors of filming for The Legend of Zelda movie kicking off, and that was followed by a supposed leak of footage from the set. Shortly thereafter Nintendo shared a message from Shigeru Miyamoto that officially announced that The Legend of Zelda movie was indeed filming, and the previously-announced May 7th, 2027 was still locked in.<\/p>\n
While Nintendo has been very quiet on the film since that last update, today brings us news that filming is still very much underway in New Zealand. As you can see in the image above, a considerable set-piece for the movie is being worked on in the Poolburn Reservoir in New Zealand. As to what exactly they\u2019re filming for the movie in this spot is up for debate, but it certainly seems like an important part of the story!<\/p>\n
The last tidbit we heard about the Legend of Zelda movie stemmed from a new agreement between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Netflix, which paved the way for Sony\u2019s projects to join Netflix after their theatrical runs, and The Legend of Zelda is very much part of that. We don\u2019t know when exactly it\u2019ll hit Netflix, but movies usually see 30 to 45-day theatrical runs, so you should expect it to drop sometime in June or early July.<\/p>\n
In the Legend of Zelda movie Bo Bragason will play Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is taking on the role of Link. Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn\u2019t really shared any other details about the movie, its story or other actors appearing, but hopefully they\u2019ll shed some light on the project later this year.<\/p>\n
UPDATE 4\/5: Filming in New Zealand for The Legend of Zelda movie continues, as cast and crew have been spotted in Otago, including the town of Glenorchy. These are the same locations that filming for some of the Lord of the Rings trilogy took place.
