{"id":603556,"date":"2026-04-14T14:28:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T14:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/603556\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T14:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T14:28:08","slug":"arrests-made-in-mississauga-fuel-card-fraud-investigations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/603556\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrests Made in Mississauga Fuel Card Fraud Investigations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/mediarelease1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Region of Peel \u2013 Investigators with the Peel Regional Police Fraud Bureau have arrested and charged two men in connection with separate fuel card fraud investigations in Mississauga.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, April 1, at approximately 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a fraud in progress at a fuel station in the area of Dixie Road and Britannia Road East.<\/p>\n<p>An employee reported that a suspect was distributing fraudulent fuel cards to truck drivers. Investigators determined that a dump truck driver used one of the cards to obtain more than $330 worth of diesel fuel before returning the card to the suspect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following a prompt response by officers, 27-year-old Praven Wijayanantham, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:<\/p>\n<p>Possession\/Trafficking of Credit Card Data<br \/>\nPossession of an Instrument for Copying Credit Card Data<\/p>\n<p>Officers seized several fuel cards, multiple cell phones, a laptop, and a card scanning device.<\/p>\n<p>It is alleged that the accused obtained payment information from trucking companies legitimately purchasing fuel using fleet cards. The cards were then cloned and used to offer discounted fuel to independent drivers, who paid the suspect directly while the charges were billed to the victim companies.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate incident, on Thursday, April 9, at approximately 4:20 p.m., police responded to another fraud in progress at a fuel station in the area of Atlantic Drive and Britannia Road East.<\/p>\n<p>A suspect was observed using fraudulent fuel cards to fuel four trucks, obtaining more than $2,233 worth of fuel.<\/p>\n<p>Responding officers located and arrested 28-year-old Thanisan Thanabalasingam, of Brampton, on the following charges:<\/p>\n<p>Fraud Under $5,000<br \/>\nPossession of Fraudulently Obtained Credit Card Data<\/p>\n<p>Officers also seized two fraudulent fuel cards, an unauthorized credit card, and two cell phones.<\/p>\n<p>These arrests and subsequent charges were the result of a quick response by uniform officers, with investigative support from the Fraud Bureau. Both investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the public are asked to remain vigilant for potentially fraudulent activity, including the sale of fuel under suspicious or significantly discounted circumstances.
