Andr\u00e9 \u00d8vredal\u2019s previous film, The Last Voyage of the Demeter<\/a>, expanded a small segment of Bram Stoker\u2019s Dracula to imagine what it might\u2019ve been like sailing the high seas with a hungry vampire. The latest from the filmmaker\u2014who also made Trollhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe<\/a>, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark\u2014looks like another travel tale of terror.<\/p>\n

Passenger stars Lou Llobell<\/a> (Foundation) and Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life) as a couple whose road trip takes a decidedly sinister turn. Think cult classic The Hitcher, except with way more supernatural overtones. Here\u2019s the first trailer.<\/p>\n

Passenger warns us that \u201c130 million people take road trips every year; 15,400 of them are never seen again,\u201d which seems awfully high\u2014unless this is the kind of hazard people are encountering on all those dimly lit shortcuts.<\/p>\n

The official description gives us a little more insight into the story: \u201cA few weeks into their van life adventure, a young couple witnesses a horrific accident that leaves the driver dead. Soon they\u2019re being pursued by a demonic stalker who\u2019s impossible to outrun and follows them wherever they go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maybe add a little It Follows to Passenger\u2018s list of influences with that detail? We\u2019re also intrigued by the inclusion of Oscar winner Melissa Leo as a mysterious woman who seems to know more about the \u201cunholy\u201d situation than she\u2019s letting on\u2014something it\u2019ll take a lot more than a St. Christopher medal hanging from the rearview mirror to ward off.<\/p>\n
