LEXINGTON, Ky. \u2013 Freshman Hudson Vedder<\/a> closed with a 4-over par 75 on Tuesday afternoon to finish tied for 15th and lead the Central Michigan men’s golf team in the final round of the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky.

\nThe T15 was the best collegiate finish for Vedder, who hails from Laguna Niguel, Calif. He opened with a 5-over 76 and then completed his second-round with an even-par 71 on Tuesday morning.
\n\u00a0
\nHe finished at 9-over 222 on the University Club’s Big Blue Course, which played to par 71 over 7,013 yards.
\n\u00a0
\n“With Hudson we’re seeing glimpses of the future of Chippewa Golf,” CMU coach Kevin Jennings<\/a> said. “He’s very absorbent with wanting to get better; he seeks out opportunities to get better physically and mentally; he works at every facet of what we’re doing and we’re beginning to see some of that yield coming to the forefront.”

\nVedder made three birdies and an eagle \u2013 that coming on the 326-yard par-4 ninth hole during his first round on Monday \u2013 over his 54 holes in the tournament.

\n“A lot of it was his short game,” Jennings said, “and he credits a lot of the work that we’ve been doing on that and it’s really, really starting to hit home for him and impact his game. And then it’s just his overall level of maturity and that’s assisting him in his trajectory.

\n“He’s like a sponge in his desire to improve. He’s wants to see us rise and elevate and that’s a testament to his dedication and the things he’s doing and we’re looking forward to that permeating throughout the program.”

\nCMU’s Keith Hunter<\/a> closed with a 6-over 77 on Tuesday, while Nicholas Kilgore<\/a> shot 80, and Aydan Downer<\/a> posted an 81.

\nThe Chippewas’ Jeffrey Andrus<\/a> Jr. completed his second round with a 6-over 77 on Tuesday morning and then withdrew from the tournament with an illness.
\n\u00a0
\nHunter finished T51 with a 231 total, Downer finished T77 at 236, and Kilgore finished T83 at 239.
\n\u00a0
\nThe Chippewas posted a final-round 313 team total after opening with a 309. They shot 304 in the second round and finished in 15th place in the 17-team field with a 926 total.
\n\u00a0
\nHost Kentucky, which is ranked 52nd nationally, shot 289 in the final round to finish with an 858 total. Runner-up Marquette, which is ranked 72nd, finished four shots back.

\nVinny Cervantes of Marquette and Kentucky’s Cole Stockard both finished with at even-par 213 to share medalist honors.

\nCMU is scheduled to partake in the Muirfield Shootout in Muirfield, Ohio, on Monday, April 20. After that, it’s the Mid-American Conference Championship May 2-4 at The Club at Holliday Farms in Zionsville, Ohio.

\n“Every course that we’ve played going back to Texas, to California where we host, to Missouri last week and this event, all of these events are geared toward our preparation for the MAC Championship,” Jennings said. “All of these course that we’ve played, I feel, are ‘big boy’ courses and seeing these courses and competing on them has been excellent preparation.

\n“They’ve given the guys visuals of what we’ll be facing Holliday Farms. We’ve been able to see throughout the semester and throughout the entire year that we have a lot of talent on our team so we’re looking to bring it all together and learn from everything we’ve done and play a little better golf down the stretch.”<\/p>\n
