{"id":604551,"date":"2026-04-15T00:36:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T00:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/604551\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T00:36:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T00:36:27","slug":"woman-acting-erratically-at-mill-woods-restaurant-dies-in-edmonton-police-custody-asirt-investigating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/604551\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman \u2018acting erratically\u2019 at Mill Woods restaurant dies in Edmonton police custody; ASIRT investigating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A woman who authorities say was causing a disturbance at a Mill Woods-area restaurant last month died in Edmonton police custody.<\/p>\n<p>Alberta\u2019s police watchdog is investigating the March 26 death.<\/p>\n<p>The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers were called about the woman who was reportedly \u201cacting erratically, yelling, and frightening customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses told police the woman ran into another nearby restaurant, where she hid in a washroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficers found and arrested her, then called paramedics to attend the scene. The woman did not cooperate with their attempts to assess her condition,\u201d ASIRT said in an news release.<\/p>\n<p>About 30 minutes after police were called, the woman was transported to the Edmonton police\u2019s detainee management unit (DMU), which is designed to process and monitor at-risk or vulnerable detainees. During transport, the woman allegedly continued to behave erratically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon arrival, DMU staff found the woman unresponsive and called EMS to take her to the hospital, where she died shortly after,\u201d ASIRT said.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with footage to contact ASIRT at 780-644-1483.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/ASIRT-e1764191809290-1024x576.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" ratio=\"16x9\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tAn ASIRT (Alberta Serious Incident Response Team) backdrop seen on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016.
