{"id":604753,"date":"2026-04-15T02:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T02:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/604753\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T02:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T02:38:08","slug":"whats-open-and-closed-during-the-montreal-blue-collar-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/604753\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s open and closed during the Montreal blue-collar strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Montreal\u2019s blue-collar workers will begin a three-day strike Wednesday morning, resulting in a partial shutdown of city services.<\/p>\n<p>More than 6,000 workers represented by CUPE Local 301 plan to walk out from 6 a.m. Wednesday until Saturday at 6 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The strike will impact waste collection and street cleaning, as well as the opening hours of some pools and libraries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a list of what\u2019s open and closed during the three-day strike, by borough:<\/p>\n<p>All boroughs<\/p>\n<p>Essential services will be maintained: road repairs (major potholes and subsidence), emergency operations related to water mains and sewers, etc.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/news\/montreal-to-suspend-street-cleaning-parking-restrictions-april-15-to-17\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Parking restrictions related to street cleaning are suspended<\/a>. All other parking regulations remain in effect, including metered spaces, on-street parking areas reserved for residents, time-limited zones, reserved lanes, spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility and secure areas (e.g., fire hydrants).<\/p>\n<p>Rosemont\u2014La Petite-Patrie<\/p>\n<p>Collection of green waste and bulky items is cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Household waste collection scheduled for Thursday is cancelled in certain areas only. <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/actualites\/greve-des-cols-bleus-du-15-au-18-avril-dans-rosemont-la-petite-patrie-108502\">See montreal.ca<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<p>Some libraries, pools, and community centres are closed.<\/p>\n<p>St-Laurent<\/p>\n<p>Garbage, recycling and organic waste collection will be maintained.<\/p>\n<p>Some public buildings are closed or have modified schedules, including park chalets and arenas.<\/p>\n<p>Lachine<\/p>\n<p>Arena Pierre \u201cPete\u201d Morin will be closed. All other municipal buildings will remain open.<\/p>\n<p>Waste collection and essential services will be maintained.<\/p>\n<p>C\u00f4te-des-Neiges\u2014Notre-Dame-de-Gr\u00e2ce<\/p>\n<p>Compost, bulky waste and green waste collection is cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Libraries, cultural centres, and administrative service offices are open.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00cele-Bizard\u2014Ste-Genevi\u00e8ve<\/p>\n<p>Waste collection services are maintained as they are provided by external contractors.<\/p>\n<p>The town hall and the municipal depot site will be closed.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/actualites\/greve-du-personnel-cols-bleus-les-15-16-et-17-avril-etat-des-services-libsg-106837\">See the city\u2019s website<\/a> for details on opening hours of community centres and libraries.<\/p>\n<p>Anjou<\/p>\n<p>Waste collection will continue as scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>Park chalets and the permit counter are closed.<\/p>\n<p>Montr\u00e9al-Nord<\/p>\n<p>Waste collection will continue.<\/p>\n<p>Some pools and arenas are closed.<\/p>\n<p>LaSalle<\/p>\n<p>Some arenas and sports centres will be closed, while other facilities and aquatic centres will be open. <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/actualites\/greve-du-personnel-cols-bleus-etat-des-services-lasalle-106809\">See the city website<\/a> for details. <\/p>\n<p>All collections will take place as usual. <\/p>\n<p>Mercier\u2014Hochelaga-Maisonneuve<\/p>\n<p>In certain areas, household waste collection scheduled for Thursday has been postponed to Saturday during the daytime. The city instructs residents to put waste out between 7 p.m. the evening before and 7 a.m. on the day of collection. The city asks residents to keep waste on their property until the next collection day during the week of April 20. <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/actualites\/greve-du-15-au-18-avril-impact-sur-les-collectes-et-installations-du-sud-ouest-108438\">See the city map for details.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several pools, arenas and park chalets are closed.<\/p>\n<p>Certain cultural centres and libraries are scheduled to stay open.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ahuntsic-Cartierville<\/p>\n<p>Recycling collection is cancelled.
