\n\tHeavy is the head that wears the crown. <\/p>\n
\n\tTimoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s Paul Atreides may be firmly ensconced as the Padishah Emperor, but as thrilling new footage from \u201cDune: Part Three<\/a>\u201d that Warner Bros. and Legendary released at CinemaCon<\/a> on Tuesday makes clear, ruling the galaxy comes at great cost. Particularly if that means you can\u2019t run off into the sunset with the woman you actually love, Chani (Zendaya), and instead have to be trapped in a marriage of political necessity to Florence Pugh\u2019s Princess\u00a0Irulan. Oh, and your followers have launched a jihad in your name that\u2019s causing the body count to climb to dizzying heights. <\/p>\n \n\tDirector Denis Villeneuve and three of his stars, Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa, took the stage in Las Vegas to introduced a seven-minute long clip of the opening scene of \u201cDune: Part III\u201d \u2014 and things get violent, loud and deadly, fast.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cDune: Part Three\u201d picks up 17 years after the prior installment, and Chalamet said that his Paul has become \u201chis worst vision.\u201d\u00a0At one point in the footage, Momoa\u2019s character tells Paul: \u201cYou have conquered the galaxy. You have destroyed thousands of worlds.\u00a0I think you are way beyond redemption.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tEven though Paul\u2019s life has gotten more complicated and his hold over the Fremen has grown more toxic, \u201cDune: Part Three\u201d promises the same epic sweep of the first two films in the franchise. Clearly, Villeneuve knows how to turn an impenetrable and famously difficult literary material into something truly cinematic and sweeping.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cDune: Part Three\u201d brings back many cast-members from the previous films, such as Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem, and gives some performers, notably Anya Taylor-Joy, substantially more to do. There\u2019s also some new additions like Robert Pattinson as the villainous Scytale, and one notable returnee \u2014 Momoa, resurrected as a ghola.<\/p>\n \n\tWarner Bros. went all out with \u201cDune\u201d as the conclusion to its CinemaCon presentation. The studio brought out dozens of Fremen \u2014 some of whom were dangling from the ceiling on wires \u2014 to grace the stage before Villeneuve took the stage to introduce the \u201cDune 3\u201d footage.<\/p>\n \n\tVilleneuve teased that \u201cPart III\u201d will take the story in a new direction. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to walk in my own footsteps,\u201d he said. \u201cI wanted to do something new.\u201d The filmmaker described the first movie \u201cmore meditative, more contemplative\u201d and the second as \u201ca war movie.\u201d With that in mind, Villeneuve says the third is a thriller. \u201cIt\u2019s more action-packed, faster paced, and more emotional.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tVilleneuve spoke fondly about wrapping up the decade-long journey to bring the \u201cDune\u201d franchise to the screen. \u201cIt was quite emotional for me to bring them back one last time in front of the camera and say farewell to Paul and Chani in the desert. We became like a small family. This was 10 years of our life.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tChalamet noted he\u2019s \u201cgrown up\u201d on the set of these films and called it \u201ca deep honor, if not the biggest honor of my career to work with the one, Denis Villeneuve,\u201d adding that the director is \u201con another level.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tVilleneuve, who will soon be making the next James Bond movie, has promised \u201cDune: Part Three\u201d will bring Paul\u2019s arc to a satisfying conclusion.
