Man attacked by grizzly bear while walking dogs in rural Vanderhoof<\/p>\n

A Vanderhoof man was taken to hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries to his leg following a grizzly bear attack.<\/p>\n
According to the B.C. Conservation Office, the man was walking his two off-leash dogs on his farm property at about 5 p.m., April 13, when he was attacked.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was able to scramble under a barbed wire fence, and the bear disengaged and ran off,\u201d stated the Conservation Office.<\/p>\n
RCMP and Conservation Officers responded to the scene and conducted a sweep of the area; however, no bear was seen.<\/p>\n
Conservation Officers collected evidence from the scene and continue to investigate.<\/p>\n
Based on the location and the circumstances surrounding the attack, officers have determined the attack was defensive in nature, and there was no continued threat to public safety.<\/p>\n
Trail cameras have been placed in the area to monitor bear activity.
