After being called out by him, Diego Lopes has revealed that he would be interested in a clash with Mateusz Gamrot.<\/p>\n

When you talk about exciting featherweight fighters in the UFC, Diego Lopes has to be in the conversation. He is an electric competitor when he is playing at his very best and at UFC Freedom 250, he will get the chance to prove that once again when he collides with Steve Garcia.<\/p>\n

Of course, Lopes is coming off the back of a second defeat<\/a> to Alexander Volkanovski, leaving many to question his ability to get back to the title. Last weekend, however, he was perhaps offered an interesting change in direction when lightweight Matuesz Gamrot called him out after his victory at UFC 327.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview, Lopes had the following to say about the idea.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw the comments after the fact. I didn\u2019t see the fight and the event because I was busy with other things,\u201d Lopes told Hablemos MMA in Spanish. \u201cWhen I got on Instagram, I saw that UFC Europe had posted the callout, and I also got comments on Twitter and all that. Honestly, it\u2019s interesting. It\u2019s interesting because I\u2019ve talked about my desire to move up to 155 pounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to say unfortunately, but for now, the UFC is keeping me at 145 pounds. But definitely, yeah, if the UFC gives me a chance to move up to 155 pounds, Mateusz is definitely a good fight. I think it\u2019s a tough test for me at 155 pounds, and winning it would put me in a really good spot since he\u2019s fought the best of the division.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s had important fights in his career, and he\u2019s been at the top for a while,\u201d Lopes said analyzing Gamrot. \u201cI generally keep an eye on the fights that could be in my future. I\u2019ve expressed my interest in fighting at 155, so I need to know who\u2019s there in the rankings. I think he\u2019s ranked No. 8 or 7, and I think it would definitely be a good fight for me. Despite his style, it\u2019s a good fight for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe did it in a very respectful way, like, \u2018If he wants to move up to the division, here I am.\u2019 I don\u2019t think it\u2019s calling me out, but more of making himself available,\u201d Lopes said. \u201cThere are others who do it much more differently in an arrogant way, an ignorant way. Even that doesn\u2019t bother me, but I just don\u2019t make much of it. But yeah, it didn\u2019t bother me.<\/p>\n
