France international Hugo Ekitike \u2060is set to miss the FIFA World Cup 2026 after rupturing his Achilles tendon in Liverpool\u2019s Champions League defeat by Paris Saint-Germain.<\/p>\n

French newspapers Le Parisien and L\u2019Equipe reported the news of the 23-year-old\u2019s injury on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The striker has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season for Liverpool since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for 69 million pounds ($93.58m) last July.<\/p>\n

Ekitike pointed to his Achilles tendon as \u200cmedical staff attended to him before he was carried off on a stretcher at Anfield, where Liverpool lost 2-0 in their quarterfinal second leg, \u2060exiting the competition with \u2060a 4-0 aggregate defeat on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

The French football federation (FFF) was not immediately available for comment when contacted by the news agency Reuters.<\/p>\n

The World Cup \u200cis being held in the United States, Mexico and Canada \u200cfrom \u200cJune 11-July 19.<\/p>\n

Ekitike\u2019s two international goals for France \u2013 against Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier and Brazil in a friendly \u2013 came in his country\u2019s last four games.<\/p>\n
