{"id":606200,"date":"2026-04-15T18:02:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T18:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/606200\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T18:02:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T18:02:09","slug":"old-montreal-residential-project-halted-due-to-citizen-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/606200\/","title":{"rendered":"Old Montreal residential project halted due to citizen concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A residential project in Old Montreal has been paused due to citizen concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The building which was\u00a0expected to be built at 810 Saint-Antoine Est street and consist of 653 units is currently on hold due to\u00a0its 18 story height.<\/p>\n<p>The developers had to request an exemption because the project is higher than the six floor height maximum permitted in the borough.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 500 citizens had called for a referendum on the decision to move forward.<\/p>\n<p>At the Ville-Marie borough council meeting Tuesday, Claude Pinard, the president of the executive committee and a city councillor in Ville-Marie, said they would not be holding a referendum but the project would not go forward in its current format.<\/p>\n<p>He said the construction of new housing projects remains a priority but that citizens have spoken and they respect their choice.<\/p>\n<p>Pinard added that they will be discussing with Broccolini and Pur Immobilia, who are the developers, to see how the project could still move forward.<\/p>\n<p>In an email sent to CityNews Broccolini says they remain committed to delivering the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBroccolini and PUR Immobilia are actively collaborating on next steps and remain committed to a constructive dialogue, with the objective of delivering a project of lasting value for the neighbourhood.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A residential project in Old Montreal has been paused due to citizen concerns.
