Formula One must listen to Max \u00adVerstappen\u2019s grievances about the sport\u2019s new regulations and their effects on racing, according to F1\u2019s CEO, Stefano Domenicali. His \u00adintervention comes as key \u00adplayers hold \u00admeetings to consider \u00adadjusting the rules for the remainder of the\u00a0season.<\/p>\n
Verstappen has been outspoken in his dissatisfaction with the new \u00adformula and the part energy management now plays in \u00adpreventing being able to race flat-out. The four-time champion is not alone in his \u00adfeelings with other drivers also \u00adcritical of the deployment and recharging of \u00adelectrical energy.<\/p>\n
Verstappen, one of F1\u2019s biggest names, has been so disenchanted, however, that he has repeatedly \u00adsuggested he is considering his future<\/a> in F1 and Domenicali confirmed he had been speaking to the \u00adDutchman and other drivers about their concerns.<\/p>\n \u2018I don\u2019t want to fall into the trap of trying to create an antagonism [with drivers] because that\u2019s not me. It\u2019s not the way that we want to see that,\u2019 says Stefano Domenicali. Photograph: Kym Illman\/Getty Images<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s the best driver, he\u2019s a world champion, multiple world champion, and his voice has to be listened to,\u201d Domenicali said in an interview with\u00a0Autosport.<\/p>\n While the Italian conceded F1 was taking drivers\u2019 opinions into \u00adconsideration, he cautioned that repeated criticism was not good for the sport. \u201cWith Max, we have \u00adspoken many, many times,\u201d he said. \u201cSo we understand that I understand his comments and he understands the bigger picture.<\/p>\n \u201cEven today he has been in a meeting where he was very keen to give suggestions. I don\u2019t want to fall into the trap of trying to create an \u00adantagonism because that\u2019s not me. It\u2019s not the way we want to see that.<\/p>\n \u201cHe knows his voice has a weight and he needs to respect that weight. Sometimes, some people can take it the wrong way and this is something we should not allow to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n Talks on the regulations are taking place this month between the sport\u2019s governing body, the FIA, the teams, power-unit manufacturers and the commercial rights holders, FOM. Technical and sporting considerations from the opening three rounds and potential changes were discussed last Thursday with another technical meeting set for Thursday.<\/p>\n This will be followed by a further meeting on 20 April for the senior representatives, including team principals and their CEOs, the power-unit manufacturers and Domenicali. Changes to the regulations will be decided then, subject to ratification by the world motorsport council. It is expected this will be in time for the next round in Miami on 3 May.<\/p>\n There will be no adjustment to the engines, but it is expected the changes will focus on the parameters of energy recovery and deployment. These can be adjusted to influence the effects of energy management in racing and safety.
