BC Ferries has cancelled sailings from West Vancouver to the Sunshine Coast Wednesday after a mechanical issue.<\/p>\n
The company says the Queen of Surrey\u2019s generator failed while on the water between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale around 9 a.m.<\/p>\n
As of 12:30 p.m., the following sailings on the route have been cancelled:<\/p>\n
9:50 a.m. departing Horseshoe Bay,<\/p>\n
11:00 a.m. departing Langdale,<\/p>\n
12:10 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay, and<\/p>\n
1:15 p.m. departing Langdale.<\/p>\n
The company says it will provide four 12-passenger water taxis to supplement service.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you have a booking on one of these cancelled sailings, you will hear from our Customer Service Centre who will let you know if we can fit you on an alternate sailing later today, or if your booking must be cancelled. In the case of a cancellation, we will refund your fees and\/or fares,\u201d said a BC Ferries statement.<\/p>\n
Truck driver Mark tells 1130 NewsRadio he was aboard the Queen of Surrey when it broke down.<\/p>\n
After 27 years of commuting by ferry, he says nothing phases him anymore.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hit and miss,\u201d said Mark.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrocery stores, they\u2019re waiting for the stuff that\u2019s on my truck, so they might have to wait til after they close when I get there. Who knows?\u201d<\/p>\n
The same vessel was out of commission for several days at the start of the month, causing delays during the busy Easter long weekend.<\/p>\n
Its temporary decommission was extended when BC Ferries identified additional work needed during a refit.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just been going on for a long, long time. I understand mechanical things break, but it\u2019s getting ridiculous,\u201d said Mark.<\/p>\n
