GoFundMe<\/a> launched April 13 by the man\u2019s family identifies him as Jacob Raul Palencia.<\/p>\n\u201cOur hearts are shattered,\u201d reads a statement from the family posted to GoFundMe.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy beloved son was taken from us far too soon in a tragic motorcycle accident. This loss is something no family is ever prepared for, and the pain we feel is beyond words.\u201d<\/p>\n
The family\u2019s post describes Palencia as \u201cmore than just a son or a brother,\u201d calling him \u201ca protector, a friend to laugh with, and a light in so many lives. His silliness, his presence, and the love he gave so freely will stay with us forever.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe built so many meaningful connections through the car community \u2014 something he was deeply passionate about. He was known, respected and truly loved by so many people. It brings us a small sense of comfort knowing he was surrounded by something he loved so much, and that he left this world doing what made him feel most alive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Local car enthusiasts are planning several events in Palencia\u2019s memory, including a meet-up at the Tim Hortons outside West Oaks Mall in Abbotsford tonight (April 15) from 7:30-10:30 p.m., and a 7:30 p.m. \u201cmemorial cruise\u201d this Saturday (April 18) from the Chatters Salon in New Westminster\u2019s Queensborough Landing to Blackie Spit Park in Surrey, led by Palencia\u2019s Mustang on a flatbed and attended by his mother and brothers.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe deserved so much more time. More memories, more milestones, more moments with the people who loved him deeply. It\u2019s hard to come to terms with a future that no longer includes him,\u201d the family\u2019s post reads.<\/p>\n
The GoFundMe campaign has a goal of raising $3,500 to \u201chelp ease the financial burden during this incredibly difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n
As of Wednesday afternoon (April 15), the campaign had raised $3,120 from 32 donations, ranging in size from $10 to $1,000.<\/p>\n
