{"id":607163,"date":"2026-04-16T03:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T03:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/607163\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T03:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T03:52:10","slug":"robert-eggers-werwulf-unveils-first-footage-at-cinemacon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/607163\/","title":{"rendered":"Robert Eggers&#8217; &#8216;Werwulf&#8217; Unveils First Footage at CinemaCon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/robert-eggers\/\" id=\"auto-tag_robert-eggers\" data-tag=\"robert-eggers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Eggers<\/a>\u2018 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/werwulf\/\" id=\"auto-tag_werwulf\" data-tag=\"werwulf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Werwulf<\/a>\u201d is readying to stalk the winter movie season.<\/p>\n<p>The Universal Pictures and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/focus-features\/\" id=\"auto-tag_focus-features\" data-tag=\"focus-features\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Focus Features<\/a> presentation during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/cinemacon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cinemacon\" data-tag=\"cinemacon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CinemaCon<\/a> 2026 highlighted the companies\u2019 slate of upcoming films \u2014 including Eggers\u2019 horror movie, and his third at Focus after \u201cThe Northman\u201d and \u201cNosferatu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like those films, and his entire filmography before him, the \u201cWitch\u201d and \u201cLighthouse\u201d director is keeping with his period roots for this latest gothic chiller starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson \u2014 all part of his regular company of actors dating back, in Ineson\u2019s case, to his breakout feature \u201cThe Witch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CinemaCon attendees got a first look at the horror <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/film\/\" id=\"auto-tag_film\" data-tag=\"film\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">film<\/a> \u2014 which, like 2024\u2019s \u201cNosferatu\u201d ($95 million domestic), will open on Christmas Day. Eggers is again working in a very classical aspect ratio, some black and white sequences, and some truly demonic, monstrous material, including some disturbing body horror as we see glimpses of a man becoming a werewolf. <\/p>\n<p>Eggers again reteams with the Icelandic poet Sj\u00f3n (\u201cThe Northman\u201d) as co-writer on a film that draws on early folklore about lycanthropy to set it in 13th-century England. As the title suggests, the screenplay also incorporates Middle English to transport the audience to a foggy village stalked by the titular beast. Production wrapped in the U.K. at the top of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Werewolves have been a source of fascination in movies dating back to Henry McRae\u2019s 1913 silent film \u201cThe Werewolf\u201d \u2014 and you can expect Eggers to reach into the canon of Universal monster movies like 1941\u2019s \u201cThe Wolf Man\u201d for inspiration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Robert Eggers\u2018 \u201cWerwulf\u201d is readying to stalk the winter movie season.
