{"id":607578,"date":"2026-04-16T08:17:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T08:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/607578\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T08:17:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T08:17:09","slug":"liv-golf-2026-season-on-track-despite-reported-funding-crisis-say-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/607578\/","title":{"rendered":"LIV Golf 2026 season on track despite reported funding crisis, say sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">LIV Golf\u2019s 2026 season will proceed as scheduled with the full backing of Saudi Arabia\u2019s Public Investment Fund (PIF), sources close to the matter said, pushing back against reports the rebel circuit was on the verge of collapse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The sources, who have knowledge of the PIF\u2019s investment and LIV operations, said funding would continue and the remaining nine tournaments of the 14-event schedule would go ahead as planned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Earlier on Wednesday, The Daily Telegraph reported LIV Golf executives had been summoned to an \u201cemergency meeting\u201d in New York, before the Financial Times reported the PIF was on the verge of cutting its support, though no final decision had been made.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The news comes one week after LIV Golf CEO Scott O\u2019Neil was in Augusta, Georgia, for the Masters together with several members of the circuit\u2019s communications team. There were 10 LIV Golf players in the 91-player starting field at the Masters, including Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, who finished two shots behind winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/sport\/2026-04-12-mcilroy-repeats-as-masters-champion-for-sixth-major-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/sport\/2026-04-12-mcilroy-repeats-as-masters-champion-for-sixth-major-title\/\">Rory McIlroy<\/a> in a share of third place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">O\u2019Neil, in an email seen by Reuters, told players: \u201cOur season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWhile the media landscape is often filled with speculation, our reality is defined by the work we do on the grass. We are heading into the heart of our 2026 schedule with the full energy of an organisation that is bigger, louder and more influential than ever before,\u201d O\u2019Neil said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">You know how these rumours are. There are always a lot of them. Now, we answer by doing what we do best: putting on the most compelling show in sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The sixth LIV event of the season tees off on Thursday at Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico. O\u2019Neil was on site on Wednesday as the pro-am was being played.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia, who signed with LIV Golf in 2022, was among the players who spoke to media in Mexico and was asked to comment on the reports that financial support to the circuit was on the verge of being cut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe haven\u2019t heard anything other than what Yasir (Al-Rumayyan, LIV Golf chair) told us at the beginning of the year, that he\u2019s behind us, that they have a long-term project,\u201d said Garcia. \u201cYou know how these rumours are. There are always a lot of them.
