A snowfall warning is in effect for Calgary and surrounding areas<\/a>, including Airdrie and Crossfield, as a heavy snow system is expected to intensify tonight and continue through Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Calgary Airport Authority is warning the storm may disrupt travel, stating \u201cheavy snowfall is forecast for tonight and tomorrow, which may impact travel.\u201d Travellers are being encouraged to arrive early, prepare for delays and check directly with their airline for the latest flight updates.<\/p>\n

Environment and Climate Change Canada says the system will impact parts of central and southern Alberta, with total snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 centimetres expected. Locally higher totals of up to 40 centimetres are possible along the Highway 9 corridor between Calgary and Coronation.<\/p>\n

In Airdrie, the forecast calls for snow at times heavy overnight, with 20 to 30 centimetres expected. Winds are forecast out of the north at 30 kilometres per hour, gusting to 50, with blowing snow expected to reduce visibility, particularly overnight and into Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Conditions are expected to remain difficult through Thursday, with an additional 5 to 10 centimetres of snow forecast and wind chills near minus 14 in the morning.<\/p>\n

In Calgary, 10 to 20 centimetres of snow is forecast tonight, followed by another 5 to 10 centimetres on Thursday. Wind gusts up to 50 kilometres per hour and wind chills near minus 17 are expected to accompany the system.<\/p>\n

Environment Canada says travel will likely be challenging, with roads and walkways becoming difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility. Road closures are also possible, particularly in areas affected by blowing snow.<\/p>\n

Poor visibility is expected at times, especially east of Highway 2 and toward the Saskatchewan border, where blowing snow may be more severe.<\/p>\n

The airport says crews and partners are preparing for the weather and working to keep travellers moving safely, though delays remain possible as conditions deteriorate.<\/p>\n

Snow is expected to taper off Thursday evening, with clearing conditions and a return to sunshine by Friday.<\/p>\n
