Mercedes ‘beat’ McLaren on the second day of a special Pirelli F1 tyre test at the Nurburgring.<\/p>\n
Using the regular race drivers from both teams, Pirelli spent Tuesday and Wednesday testing its dry-weather compounds for 2027, with Mercedes and McLaren providing cars for the Italian firm to do so.<\/p>\n
During the test, Pirelli essentially rents an F1 team to evaluate its tyres, with run-plans dictated by Pirelli and drivers and teams unaware of what they are actually running, and are just asked to provide feedback.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Oscar Piastri and George Russell were in action before handing over to reigning champion Lando Norris and current championship leader Kimi Antonelli, respectively.<\/p>\n
During the running, both Norris and Antonelli initially started on the C3 compound with different constructions before gradually transitioning to softer tyres, with Antonelli on the C4 rubber compared to C5s for Norris.<\/p>\n
Norris tallied 108 laps, or 556km of running compared to 109 laps and 561km of running for Antonelli.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Italian also bested Norris’s best time of a 1:33.640 with a best effort of his own coming via a 1:32.990.<\/p>\n
Pirelli will next be in action for wet-weather tyre testing at Magny Cours in May, whilst another dry-weather test is planned for after June’s Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mercedes ‘beat’ McLaren on the second day of a special Pirelli F1 tyre test at the Nurburgring.
