Nigel Mansell<\/a> has backed Lewis Hamilton<\/a> to win an eighth F1<\/a> world championship before he retires from the sport.<\/p>\n

Hamilton has experienced a promising start to the 2026 campaign, securing his first podium in Ferrari<\/a> red at the Chinese Grand Prix<\/a>. After three rounds, the Briton is fourth in the drivers\u2019 standings<\/a>, 31 points off Kimi Antonelli in top spot.<\/p>\n

After a chastening, podium-less debut campaign<\/a> at the Scuderia, and three years of frustration to conclude his time at Mercedes after he controversially missed out on the 2021 title to Max Verstappen, Hamilton has made no secret of his deep-rooted desire to win a record-breaking eighth championship, which would put him out on his own ahead of Michael Schumacher.<\/p>\n

And ex-Ferrari racer Mansell, the 1992 world champion, believes Hamilton is \u201creinvigorated\u201d amid new regulations this season and has backed the 41-year-old to finish off his storied career with one final crown.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to be romantic, I\u2019d like Lewis to do it,\u201d Mansell told Sky Sports News. \u201cLando [Norris has] got so many years ahead of him, he can do it again.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut yeah, I mean, come on Lewis! It\u2019s special. You\u2019ve done so many things, mate. Let\u2019s just finish it off.<\/p>\n

\u201cLewis is fired up again and I\u2019m a huge fan of Lewis. Lewis has had a brilliant career and it’s fantastic what he’s doing.<\/p>\n

“He’s now reinvigorated. Ferrari has done a fabulous job over the winter. They’re there or thereabouts. Obviously, Mercedes are the forerunners and McLaren is going to be there too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meetings are taking place over the enforced \u2018spring break\u2019 \u2013 after April races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled due to the conflict in the Gulf \u2013 with an eye on altering the regulations ahead of the next race in Miami on 3 May.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think when then they tweak the regulations and by the time we get to Silverstone [on 5 July], it\u2019ll be very close,\u201d Mansell added.<\/p>\n
