Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo will open its first Winnipeg store, located in CF Polo Park, on May 15.<\/p>\n

The retail giant, known for its casual wear clothing, has planned a weekend of festivities, it announced in a release Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The celebration will include limited in-store offers, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, taiko drumming performance by Hinode Taiko, prizes and complimentary cookies from Gunn\u2019s Bakery and coffee from Little Sister Coffee Maker.<\/p>\n

The first 500 customers will receive a commemorative Uniqlo CF Polo Park tote.<\/p>\n

The brand has teamed up with local businesses and will launch a Winnipeg-inspired collection of T-shirts and totes. The series will include three designs: two prints highlighting Gunn\u2019s Bakery and Little Sister Coffee Maker, and one featuring a cartoon-like hockey-playing bear illustrated by Toronto artist Jade Bern.<\/p>\n

The opening day festivities start at 9:10 a.m., with the store officially opening to customers at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n

Uniqlo was established in Hiroshima in 1984, and now has more than 2,500 stores worldwide, including 37 in Canada.<\/p>\n
