{"id":608565,"date":"2026-04-16T18:51:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T18:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/608565\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T18:51:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T18:51:20","slug":"top-gun-3-in-the-works-with-tom-cruise-back-for-maverick-sequel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/608565\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Top Gun 3&#8217; in the Works With Tom Cruise Back for &#8216;Maverick&#8217; Sequel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/tom-cruise\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tom-cruise\" data-tag=\"tom-cruise\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Cruise<\/a> is returning for \u201cTop Gun 3,\u201d Paramount announced during its <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/cinemacon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cinemacon\" data-tag=\"cinemacon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CinemaCon<\/a> presentation in Las Vegas, as is producer Jerry Bruckheimer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe sequel to director Joseph Kosinski\u2019s 2022 blockbuster \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/top-gun-maverick\/\" id=\"auto-tag_top-gun-maverick\" data-tag=\"top-gun-maverick\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top Gun: Maverick<\/a>\u201d was first revealed to be in the works back in 2024 with scribe Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote \u201cMaverick\u201d with Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d became a blockbuster hit when many theaters were still shuttered during the COVID-19 pandemic. It grossed $1.5 billion at the global box office from a $170 million budget, giving movie theaters the jolt they needed when times were tough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCruise returned for \u201cMaverick\u201d 36 years after he debuted his hotshot pilot in the 1986 original. His Lt. Pete \u201cMaverick\u201d Mitchell went back to the famous flight school to teach a new batch of pilots how to successfully run a dangerous mission. He also crossed paths with Bradley \u201cRooster\u201d Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his best friend Pete \u201cGoose\u201d Bradshaw who died in the first movie. Together, they\u2019re able to complete the mission with their fellow trainees and return home in one piece.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAlongside Cruise and Teller, the \u201cMaverick\u201d cast had several up-and-coming stars. Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Monica Barbaro, Danny Ramirez, Jay Ellis, Greg Tarzan Davis and Manny Jacinto all played new pilots. Their fellow cast members included Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Charles Parnell, Ed Harris and Bashir Salahuddin. It also marked the final film role for Cruise\u2019s original \u201cTop Gun\u201d co-star Val Kilmer, who played Tom \u201cIceman\u201d Kazansky.
