With the help of Jerry, a detector dog, the Canadian Border Services Agency seized more than five kilograms of undeclared sausage, salami and butter at Toronto Pearson Airport earlier this month.<\/p>\n
The CBSA said a traveller from Germany was fined $650 as a result.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe discovery was made by Jerry after he indicated on the traveller\u2019s luggage while conducting proactive searches in the baggage hall,\u201d the agency said in an email to CP24.<\/p>\n
\u201cCBSA Detector Dogs are trained to detect and sit beside the source of the odour to indicate possible prohibited items to their handler.\u201d<\/p>\n
The agency shared on Thursday a photo of Jerry next to the seized items.<\/p>\n
The CBSA noted that Jerry, a Labrador, turned five in January and has been working with the agency since April 2023.<\/p>\n
The agency has acknowledged the actions of its detector dogs at Pearson airport in the past few weeks.<\/p>\n
