{"id":608994,"date":"2026-04-16T23:16:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T23:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/608994\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T23:16:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T23:16:17","slug":"lasalle-man-sentenced-to-2-years-in-jail-for-vile-antisemitic-crimes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/608994\/","title":{"rendered":"LaSalle man sentenced to 2 years in jail for &#8216;vile&#8217; antisemitic crimes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before sentencing a 30-year-old LaSalle man to two years in jail, the Windsor judge described his antisemitic crimes as \u201cvile, filth, disgusting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nicholas Amor was sentenced Thursday for public incitement of hatred and possession of a weapon charges after pleading guilty on March 6.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s been in jail since his arrest in October. After credit for time already served, Amor\u2019s sentence will be roughly 15 months behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>Ontario Court Justice Mikolaj Bazylko called Amor\u2019s social media posts repetitive and \u201crepulsive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese were not just words. You had the necessary means to inflict damage to seriously harm people, to kill people and based on your expression, Jewish people in particular,\u201d said Bazylko.<\/p>\n<p>During his sentencing hearing, the Crown read out some of Amor\u2019s Facebook and Instagram posts.<\/p>\n<p>Those included encouraging people to create Molotov cocktails at home and use them to \u201cfight back\u201d against Jewish people.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Nicholas Amor can be seen in a screengrab from a Facebook video he posted wearing a vest with an upside down Canadian flag.\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776381377_112_default.jpg\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7777777777777777\" data-cy=\"image-img\"\/>Nicholas Amor can be seen in a screengrab from a Facebook video he posted wearing a vest with an upside down Canadian flag. (Facebook)<\/p>\n<p>In another post, Amor said \u201cZionists are like rats and ticks \u2026 that must be cleansed with fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCall me antisemitic, anti-septic, I don\u2019t give a shit,\u201d said Amor in another one of the many social media posts.<\/p>\n<p>The Crown also pointed out that public incitement of hatred is a \u201crarely charged offence\u201d in Canada, but added that charges have increased since the Israel-Hamas war.<\/p>\n<p>Once he\u2019s out, he will be on probation for three years and cannot possess any weapons for a period of 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>And his probation restrictions prohibit him from attending any synagogue, Jewish schools or other Jewish organizations as well as any protest or event that involves Palestine, Israel, the Jewish community and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Armor also cannot be on any form of social media once he\u2019s released, except for WhatsApp and only to communicate with his family.<\/p>\n<p>During his sentencing hearing, six community groups provided victim impact statements to the court, including the Windsor Jewish Federation and Community Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Jewish people avoided public events over &#8216;fear&#8217; Amor perpetuated<\/p>\n<p>Executive director Marion Zeller said Amor\u2019s posts had a \u201cprofound impact\u201d on the roughly 1,500 Jewish people in Windsor-Essex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur community lives in ongoing fear because of individuals like Mr. Amor,\u201d said Zeller. \u201cIt\u2019s also resulted in people not coming to community events because they fear being targeted in a public space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center \u2014 a non-profit human rights organization \u2014 that brought Amor\u2019s posts to the attention of police.<\/p>\n<p>During that organization\u2019s statement in court, senior director of advocacy and policy Jaime Kirzner-Roberts said Amor\u2019s posts create \u201ca real and foreseeable risk to public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor members of the Jewish community, this convergence of words and weapons is particularly frightening,\u201d said Kirzner-Roberts.<\/p>\n<p> Sorry for whoever I have impacted and thank you for the court\u2019s time.- Nicholas Amor<\/p>\n<p>During these victim impact statements, Amor sat behind glass in the prisoner\u2019s box rarely making eye contact with those who spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans, his arms were either crossed or he was leaning with his back up against the wall and at times his eyes would glance up at the ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>Once members of the Jewish community finished expressing how Amor\u2019s posts affected their community, the judge asked if he wished to say anything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSorry for whoever I have impacted and thank you for the court\u2019s time,\u201d said Amor briefly.<\/p>\n<p>Amor\u2019s mother and aunt were present in court for sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m confident with the strong family ties that this will be a turning point for him,\u201d said defence lawyer Robert DiPietro Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Amor has Jewish background himself, court hears<\/p>\n<p>He added that Amor especially regrets his actions \u201cbecause he does have a Jewish background.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour family members are Jewish. I don\u2019t even know what to say about that,\u201d said Bazylko.<\/p>\n<p>While in jail, the court heard that Amor worked with police to delete his Instagram page and is working to remove his Facebook account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEducate yourself,\u201d said Bazylko. \u201cThat\u2019s really at the end of the day is the main lesson I can tell you at this point sir.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s ok to have beliefs. It\u2019s ok to be passionate about causes.
