{"id":609004,"date":"2026-04-16T23:21:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T23:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/609004\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T23:21:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T23:21:13","slug":"winnipeg-jets-reflect-on-missing-playoffs-one-year-after-claiming-nhls-best-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/609004\/","title":{"rendered":"Winnipeg Jets reflect on missing playoffs, one year after claiming NHL\u2019s best record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Winnipeg Jets wrap up their season Thursday at home against San Jose, capping off what\u2019s been a disappointing campaign for players and fans alike.<\/p>\n<p>Just one year removed from winning the President\u2019s Trophy for the league\u2019s best record, the Jets will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt sucks,\u201d said captain Adam Lowry. \u201cYou come into training camp, and coming off the season we had last year, it\u2019s playoff aspirations, Stanley Cup aspirations, and we came well short of that, and there\u2019s a feeling of disappointment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winnipeg is just the fifth reigning Presidents\u2019 Trophy winner to miss the playoffs the following season.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Panthers &amp; Jets both miss the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the 2nd time in history where the defending Stanley Cup champion &amp; Presidents&#8217; Trophy winner miss the postseason in the following campaign, joining the Kings &amp; Bruins in 2014-15<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sportsnet Stats (@SNstats) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SNstats\/status\/2043916091513004043?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 14, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t fulfill the objective and that\u2019s to play in the Stanley Cup playoffs,\u201d said head coach Scott Arniel. \u201cAnd for fans, it\u2019s real disappointing especially after last year and the excitement that happened this time of year around the city and with the games. The other night when we found out we lost, it\u2019s a gut punch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Jets made a valiant late-season push for the postseason, going 13-5-4 over a stretch from Feb. 25 to April 9. But three straight losses over the last week sealed their fate.<\/p>\n<p>For Lowry, injuries and poor play early in the season, culminating in an 11-game losing streak, created too big of a hole to climb out of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why you talk about consistency, that\u2019s why you talk about performance from the start of the year to the end of the year, and how critical points are regardless of the time of the year,\u201d the captain said. \u201cSo it\u2019s frustrating. We gotta keep on moving forward, keep on supporting our team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt sucks because we\u2019ve come to expect playoff hockey here,\u201d added fan Chris Chin. \u201cBut at the end of the day, it\u2019s one season.
