The claims, first highlighted by golf journalist Ryan French<\/a> and later reported by outlets including the Financial Times and Fox News, have intensified scrutiny of LIV Golf<\/a>\u2019s future just four years after its launch in 2022 and midway through its fifth season.<\/p>\n While LIV Golf has not formally addressed the speculation, O\u2019Neil used his latest on-screen interview to push back on the tone of media coverage and what he described as a reliance on unnamed sources.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m disappointed with some of the coverage,\u201d O\u2019Neil told White.\u00a0<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n \u201cI’ve never been in an industry that has more unnamed sources than this one. In fact I was reading through some coverage this morning and I couldn’t find one source on the record in all the articles that were written. I would just say, let’s be responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n When pressed directly on suggestions that LIV Golf could be in danger of folding, O\u2019Neil dismissed the claims as exaggerated and rooted in speculation.<\/p>\n \u201cHaving been in private equity now for over a dozen years, this is the process you go through, and sometimes it\u2019s not smooth, and sometimes it\u2019s not easy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cBut I can tell you, given the momentum of this business, we\u2019re really excited about where we are and the position where we are.<\/p>\n \u201cThis notion of secret meetings, and getting summoned to New York \u2014 I live in New York, so it\u2019s easy to summon myself there.<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n \u201cBut it\u2019s a lot of reaching and grabbing for headlines and clickbait and stories.<\/p>\n \u201cFor us, it\u2019s business as usual. But if you want to ask me if this business is tough, I would say, \u2018absolutely\u2019. If you ask me if we\u2019re managed very, very tightly, I would say, \u2018absolutely\u2019. Can this be challenging? \u2018Absolutely\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n White then raised the perception of ongoing criticism directed at LIV Golf and questioned why scepticism about the league continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n O\u2019Neil downplayed the external noise, suggesting there is broad interest across the sport in the league\u2019s continued existence.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I\u2019m a PGA Tour player, I want LIV to survive. This notion of bringing teams to market is something we\u2019re actively working on.\u201d<\/p>\n Pressed on how he would continue to position LIV Golf to PGA Tour players and rising stars in the game, O\u2019Neil maintained that interest in the league remains strong.<\/p>\n \u201cMost of them call us, quite frankly,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cLIV Golf is not for everybody.
