The Winnipeg Blue Bombers<\/a> officially signed former Wilfrid Laurier quarterback Taylor Elgersma<\/a> on Thursday night, April 16, 2026, to strengthen their roster following the retirement of veteran backup Chris Streveler. Elgersma, a standout Canadian talent, joins the club after a brief stint in the United Football League.<\/p>\n

The six-foot-five, 226-pound native of London, Ontario, was previously selected by Winnipeg in the second round of the 2025 CFL<\/a> draft as the 18th overall pick. His performance earned him an invitation to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, making him the first quarterback from a Canadian university to participate in the prestigious American college showcase. Following his college career, he signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent.<\/p>\n

During his time with the Packers, Elgersma completed 16-of-23 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown across three exhibition games before his release. He subsequently drew interest from several NFL teams, including the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins.<\/p>\n

The two-time Ontario University Athletics MVP was recognized as a first-team All-Canadian in 2024 and a second-team honoree the year prior. Elgersma is scheduled to hold his first formal media availability as a member of the Blue Bombers on Friday.<\/p>\n
