Novak Djokovic is still working through the injury problems \u2060that forced him to miss recent events in Miami and Monte Carlo \u200cand says he may not be ready for next \u200cweek’s Madrid Open, one of the \u200clast stops before the French Open Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

The \u200c38-year-old Serb lost to Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> in \u200cthe Australian Open final in February and fell to Jack Draper<\/a> in the Indian Wells \u200cfourth round last month, before \u2060pulling out of \u200cthe Miami Open due to a right shoulder \u200binjury.<\/p>\n

The 24-time Grand Slam champion then skipped last week’s Monte Carlo Masters \u200bbefore arriving in Spain to begin preparations for the April 22-May 3 Madrid Open.<\/p>\n

However, \u2060his participation \u200bat the event, which he has won three times, remains in doubt.<\/p>\n

“I hope to compete here, I’m working towards that,” Djokovic<\/a> told \u200cSpanish broadcaster Movistar+ at a EuroLeague basketball game in the Spanish capital on Thursday.<\/p>\n

“I don’t (know), I’m not sure. I have been struggling physically a little bit with an injury, so I’m trying to address that and play as long as I can.<\/p>\n

“Now I have a little bit \u200cmore time, not playing as much, so \u200bI get a chance to enjoy other \u200csports and great athleticism.”<\/p>\n

The draw for the Madrid Open will be held on Monday.<\/p>\n
