Toronto residents were rattled Thursday night after what many described as a “giant fireball explosion”\u00a0lit up the sky near Downsview Park.<\/p>\n
You know you live in “Hollywood North”\u00a0when you’re trying to fall asleep and suddenly your apartment lights up like an opening scene of an action movie.<\/p>\n
Witnesses reported a massive burst of flames that painted the sky a surreal, almost apocalyptic shade of orange, followed by repetitive loud booms.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If you’re wondering: no, it wasn’t a surprise pyrotechnic-laden concert from Rammstein.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, it was all courtesy of homegrown megastar Drake.<\/p>\n

And while the spectacle may have been visually impressive, it’s worth noting that sudden explosions can be genuinely unsettling for some people, especially given what’s transpiring around the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n As caught off guard as some people were, it\u00a0wasn’t entirely a surprise. Downsview Park\u00a0posted a notice<\/a> on April 13 warning that residents might notice loud noises, flashes of light, and smoke in the area.<\/p>\n A separate notice<\/a> posted near the park did say a “pyrotechnic event”\u00a0would take place between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. for a film shoot titled “VIDEO BOT.” Online reports suggest\u00a0the vaguely named project is connected to Drake’s upcoming Iceman album, rumoured to be about his never-ending feud with U.S. rapper Kendrick Lamar<\/a>.<\/p>\n Drake was also spotted<\/a> filming in Toronto earlier this month, though it’s unclear if that and this latest shoot are part of the same video or separate projects.<\/p>\n While the release date\u00a0for\u00a0Iceman has not been announced, the rapper has been working overtime to promote the album. Other weird viral stunts Drizzy has pulled off this month include covering his iconic courtside Raptors seats\u00a0in fake ice<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n If this is how Drake builds hype, Toronto might want to start reading signs a little more carefully.<\/p>\n
