Kyle Larson’s<\/a> NASCAR Cup Series<\/a> championship victory at Phoenix helped Hendrick Motorsports land a $2.8million payday.<\/p>\n

That is according to a report from Blackbook Motorsport<\/a>, which has delved into the business side of the sport.<\/p>\n

Despite Denny Hamlin having dominated the championship race back in November<\/a>, Larson was the man to emerge victorious and lift the title, with crew chief Cliff Daniels having made a season-defining call to change two tires during a late pitstop ahead of overtime, and not four.<\/p>\n

Cup Series points prize money, though, is based on a two-year rolling average of finishes, which means Larson’s championship netted Hendrick Motorsports $2.8 million of the total $33.7 million fund handed out to teams based on their points, roughly 8.3%.<\/p>\n

23XI lawsuit revealed brutal reality of NASCAR team finances<\/p>\n

The above report once again highlighted just how bleak the financial situation was for teams in recent years, with data having been made available during the 23XI and Front Row Motorsports’ lawsuit against the stock car racing series.<\/p>\n

Analysis from FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass<\/a> at the time discussed that in 2024, teams lost an average of $2.2 million per car, with one team claiming to have lost as much as $10 million that year.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the only concerning figure. Of the teams that submitted their data as part of the lawsuit, only five of them made a profit in the years between 2020 and 2024.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, even those that did make money did not make much, with just three teams generating more than $1 million per car in those years.<\/p>\n
