Natalie Portman is \u201cawed\u201d to be welcoming a third child with her partner, the French music producer Tanguy Destable.<\/p>\n

The actor revealed the news exclusively to Harper\u2019s Bazaar. \u201cTanguy and I are very excited,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019m just very grateful. I know it\u2019s such a privilege and a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Portman, who is 44, is the child of a fertility doctor and has a keen awareness of the challenges and heartbreak that can accompany a fertility journey. \u201cI grew up hearing about how hard it is to get pregnant,\u201d she says. \u201cI have so many people I love who\u2019ve had such a hard time with it that I want to be respectful around that as well. It\u2019s such a beautiful, joyous thing, and it\u2019s also not an easy thing.\u201d She adds, \u201cAnd so I know how lucky it is. I\u2019m very aware, and I\u2019m very grateful. I have deep appreciation and gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gratitude is one of the feelings she notes she is experiencing more profoundly with this pregnancy. She has two children from her previous marriage to choreographer Benjamin Millepied: son Aleph, 14, and daughter Amalia, 9. \u201cThere is a gratitude that when you\u2019re young, you don\u2019t necessarily grasp,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd there\u2019s a calm and knowing myself: who I want to spend time with, what kind of energy I want around me that makes the experience so beautiful every day. And knowing it\u2019s probably the last time, I cherish every moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Physically, Portman says she is feeling great. \u201cI have more energy than I thought I might,\u201d she says, noting that this pregnancy feels similar to her previous ones. She says she\u2019s swimming and doing Gyrotonics to \u201ckeep strong\u201d and spending lots of time with her kids, \u201cwhich is always the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Portman has two completed projects on the horizon with her production company, MountainA. Cofounded with Sophie Mas in 2020, MountainA prioritizes filmmaker-driven projects that often focus on the female perspective. Portman stars as a high-strung art dealer in the absurdist comedy The Gallerist, directed by Cathy Yan, which is set for release in late 2026. (The plot involves Portman\u2019s character trying to sell a corpse at Art Basel Miami.) Netflix\u2019s Good Sex, which will come out in early 2027, is a romantic comedy written and directed by Lena Dunham in which Portman stars alongside Mark Ruffalo, Meg Ryan, and Rashida Jones. She\u2019s also the new face of Tiffany & Co., and she has a longstanding relationship with Dior.<\/p>\n

This means that Portman has the time and space right now to focus on her pregnancy. She\u2019s enjoying being pregnant in Paris, where she has been based, on and off, for several years. \u201cThere\u2019s been beautiful spring weather,\u201d she says, \u201cso it\u2019s been pretty amazing to just walk in the incredible parks here and go see art. Just the usual things you do when you\u2019re not working!\u201d She also jokes, \u201cIn France, they consider full-term to be 41 weeks rather than 40, so I guess I get an extra week to be pregnant this time around.\u201d<\/p>\n

I ask if Portman succumbs at all to the onslaught of information hurled at new mothers digitally across social media. \u201cI\u2019m not really looking at social media that much,\u201d she says. \u201cI think maybe just having done it twice before\u2026 I read so many books the first time, and now I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, we know what to do.\u2019 It\u2019s okay. You figure it out. We\u2019re going to make lots of mistakes, no matter how hard we try. And also, we\u2019re going to do a lot right without having to do research. I feel like if you\u2019re just present and loving, that\u2019s the best thing possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

And, no, there are no strange pregnancy cravings.
