{"id":611500,"date":"2026-04-18T02:38:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T02:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/611500\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T02:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T02:38:09","slug":"the-worlds-largest-vaisakhi-parade-is-happening-in-surrey-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/611500\/","title":{"rendered":"The world&#8217;s largest Vaisakhi parade is happening in Surrey this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The world\u2019s largest Vaisakhi parade is happening in Surrey this weekend on Saturday, April 18th in what\u2019s expected to be a massive celebration.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/anywherevancouver.com\/events-calendar\/surrey-khalsa-day-vaisakhi-parade-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Surrey Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade<\/a> is set to draw more than half a million people. The parade commemorates the founding of the Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh Ji (10th Sikh Guru) and a commitment to sovereignty, human rights, equality, and fairness.<\/p>\n<p>The parade will begin at Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar Temple, located at 12885-85 Avenue. The parade will travel along 124th Street and turn left onto 75th Avenue. From there it\u2019ll continue on 76th Avenue and onto 128th Street before reaching the Temple.<\/p>\n<p>The parade will feature a colourful and entertaining procession of over 2500 participants representing 20 community organizations. Attendees will come across hundreds of booths sponsored by local businesses and families along the route handing out free food and treats.<\/p>\n<p>With the parade starting at approximately 9am, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surrey.ca\/news-events\/events\/khalsa-day-vaisakhi-parade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">several road closures<\/a> will be in place from 6am to 8pm. The City of Surrey says access to 128 Street and road sections along the parade route will be impacted most significantly.
