Joining the next instalment for master franchises in the open-world RPG genre, like Elder Scrolls 6<\/a> and The Witcher, this new standalone title proudly presents itself as a ‘quality over quantity’ title designed by players who despise ‘dull filler quests.’<\/p>\n

The RPG world has been treated to some magnificent titles of late, with even the smallest of teams like the 30-person-strong Sandfall Interactive gifting us masterpieces like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.<\/p>\n

But while we take a breath from Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring, and await The Witcher 4 and Elder Scrolls 6, the small team at Push On has now showcased its upcoming open-world RPG, Alkahest, and it looks to be every bit as good as its colossal rivals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alkahest set to be the latest open-world RPG to fill the Elder Scrolls void<\/p>\n

Set in the depths of a ‘murky medieval world’, Alkahest has been announced as an upcoming action-adventure RPG from Push On, promising ‘satisfying’ melee combat in interactive environments.<\/p>\n

First announced in June 2025<\/a>, the developers shared eight minutes of gameplay in their press kit, revealing that the game is now available to be added to your wishlist on PC stores like Steam.<\/p>\n

“When the sun rises over the kingdom of Kadanor, it casts long shadows. Explore a world mired in feudal turmoil, where the balance of power between the three major houses is fragile,” the game description reads.<\/p>\n

Straight off the bat, with a blade in hand, facing down the barrel of a Middle-earth fortress and an array of archers, you immediately draw comparisons to the RPG giants. With goblins and other orc-like monsters to contend with, there’s clear inspiration from the likes of The Witcher.<\/p>\n

But with a full release expected this year, arriving on all platforms, it could be the latest open-world sword-slinger that fills the void left by the elusive Elder Scrolls 6<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An unexpected hero awaits<\/p>\n

Here’s what sets the game aside from the likes of Elder Scrolls 6 and The Witcher: Alkahest is not a very magical world. It’s the gritty Middle-earth feel that would be more in tune with something born in the brain on Tolkien (minus the Gandalf).<\/p>\n

Instead of the Dragonborn shouts and Geralt’s signs, the protagonist in Alkahest is nothing more than the youngest son of a petty lord who has developed a taste for alchemy, sword combat, and dungeon crawling.<\/p>\n

Using anything from a rope to a brewed concoction to a sword, this open-world RPG is arguably more relatable to the average person, ensuring you don’t put yourself in a sticky situation you can only get out of by harnessing the Thu’um.<\/p>\n
