Premier Wab Kinew said he stands by his remark that Manitoba\u2019s teacher commissioner was fired.<\/p>\n

Education Minister Tracy Schmidt initially told the Free Press Bobbi Taillefer had resigned on April 7, after it was reported she was working from Florida.<\/p>\n

Following the article\u2019s publication last week, Kinew told the media the government had fired the bureaucrat, a claim she called \u201cblatantly false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Premier Wab Kinew told the media the government fired Manitoba\u2019s former teacher commissioner, Bobbi Taillefer.<\/p>\n

Taillefer was given the job of reviewing claims of teacher misconduct in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything I told you last week was true,\u201d said the premier Friday.\u201cWe told this person that we were going to go separate ways, and then we said: \u2018Do you want this to be described publicly as a termination or a resignation, and she chose resignation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kinew accused Taillefer of \u201cparsing words.\u201d He said the government is aware she has retained legal counsel. Asked why she was given a contract to help with the transition to a replacement commissioner, the premier referred to it as severance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was designed to maybe keep the situation quiet, but I don\u2019t think it accomplished that purpose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the province appointed David Yeo, who has held several positions in the education department, as the interim commissioner.<\/p>\n

Schmidt said Yeo will bring \u201cexperience and stability,\u201d to the role during the search for a permanent replacement.<\/p>\n
