{"id":613104,"date":"2026-04-18T20:49:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T20:49:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/613104\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T20:49:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T20:49:19","slug":"a-glimpse-of-the-new-10000-capacity-pne-amphitheatre-weeks-before-completion-daily-hive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/613104\/","title":{"rendered":"A glimpse of the new 10,000-capacity PNE amphitheatre, weeks before completion | Daily Hive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In just seven weeks from now, Vancouver\u2019s newest visual landmark and major entertainment venue will reach full completion and officially open for its first events.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is now in the very final stages for the Freedom Mobile Arch, the new PNE amphitheatre at Hastings Park \u2014 just in time for its centrepiece use for <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/vancouver-fifa-fan-festival-concerts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">live match screenings and concerts for Vancouver\u2019s official 2026 FIFA World Cup Fan Festival<\/a>, held at the PNE fairgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>But one week before the FIFA World Cup kicks off, Freedom Mobile Arch will host a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/freedom-mobile-arch-pne-amphitheatre-opening-night-celebration-event-june-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">grand opening night celebration event on Friday, June 5, 2026<\/a>, featuring numerous singers, artists, and performers, including legendary Canadian singer Jann Arden. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/freedom-mobile-arch-pne-amphitheatre-opening-night-celebration-event-june-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tickets<\/a> for this very first event at the new covered outdoor amphitheatre will go on sale soon.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Vancouver\u2019s municipal elected officials \u2014 mayor Ken Sim and city councillor Mike Klassen, who is the chair of the PNE\u2019s board of directors \u2014 were provided with a tour earlier this month of the construction progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHastings Park and the PNE have been the site of countless iconic moments in the history of our City and province,\u201d said Sim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to see the Freedom Mobile Arch carry forward that legacy as a truly world-class entertainment venue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"freedom mobile arch pne amphitheatre\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1100\" height=\"819\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2263140\" style=\"color:transparent\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/freedom-mobile-arch-pne-amphitheatre-construction-april-2026-4.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2263140\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">April 2026 construction progress on Freedom Mobile Arch, the new PNE amphitheatre. (Mike Klassen)<\/p>\n<p>Freedom Mobile Arch can hold up to 10,000 spectators, including 6,000 seats under the roof and another 4,000 in a flexible open lawn area in the rear, known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/pne-freedom-mobile-arch-amphitheatre-bclc-backyard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">\u201cBCLC Backyard\u201d<\/a> under a sponsorship agreement with B.C. Lottery Corporation. There are also a number of VIP box seats and suites.<\/p>\n<p>It is now among the largest-capacity venues in Metro Vancouver and the second largest at Hastings Park \u2014 behind the 17,000-seat Pacific Coliseum and well ahead of the 3,200-seat Agrodome. It is also the first major permanent venue built at Hastings Park since the Pacific Coliseum was completed in 1968. The Coliseum was constructed to attract an NHL franchise and ultimately became the home of the Vancouver Canucks for a quarter century.<\/p>\n<p>This modern amphitheatre venue, built at a cost of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/freedom-mobile-arch-pne-amphitheatre-construction-update-cost-budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$184 million<\/a>, features permanent back-of-house and front-of-house features, as opposed to the very significant temporary setups that would be required for the previously demolished 1960s-built dilapidated open-air amphitheatre \u2014 originally intended to be temporary \u2014 on the same footprint. (Mike Klassen)<\/p>\n<p>There are 60 mass-timber arches arranged in six barrel vaulted segments, reaching a height of up to 82 ft. (25 metres) and spanning 344 ft. (105 metres) between buttress tips. The structure is impossible to miss in the Hastings Park skyline.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the stage is set against the North Shore mountains, which lend a gentle and recognizable natural backdrop to the venue\u2019s overall setting.<\/p>\n<p>Significant work was also well underway with installing the 6,000 seats on the floor beneath the roof.
